well updates can also be done and yes its a pirated copy, as is almost 99% of the softwares used in pak. secondly last time i checked garmin didnt had a map of pakistan and this is only 2 weeks back, btw garmin mobile xt costs 100$ and as it is a software it can be registered once you pay them online so if anyone is interested in getting it i think he/she will directly contact garmin instead to your friend. so if your frind has really got a license he cant sell each copy less than 100$ that itself will cost 8k.
as far as the maps are concerned, garmin maps have *.img extension and after getting osm data from openstreetmap it can be converted easily and converted maps are also freely available on net.
