1HDFTE - nothing else would be upto par - you would get about 280 lb/ft torque at 1400 rpm - cant argue with that power - peak hp would be 165 at 3400 rpm (it would feel like a train though)

I used to own a UN Spec LC 80 series with a 1HZ, no turbo, no fancy electronics, and it was extremely reliable, never ever let me down and I had never gotten stuck off-roading in it and it was also quite economical to run when compared to my previous vehicles with 13BT, 1KZ and 3L. I would strongly recommend a 1HZ.
