GEAR BOX sound in VITZ :-(

I am facing a strange sound in my VITZ-05 REG in 08. Its while on Drive or Reverse, some thing like Bering sound, The sound start coming when for the first time I run my car on 160-165 KMH on Motorway just to check how fast it can run

Toyota workshop people says its coming from gear box and its due to some Bering or belt.. They asking following expense..

1- Gear Box opening + fitting = 10000
2- Gear Oil cost - 4200
3- Gear Oil changing labor - 1000
4- Gear box parts that need to be repair or change - 20000 +/-

So its about 35 thousand +/-

All I want to know from any expert what I should do, what type of prob is this, any other workshop regarding repair or check it in LAHORE, Any VITZ expert??

My VITZ have done 59000 on ODI (CNG Never installed)

Today I changed the gear oil.. that cost me 4200 for gear oil and 1000 labor..
But still that sound is there..
I have noticed that this sound is also coming when car is running but transmission is on neutral.. That means its not a gear box or auto transmission fault..
ANY EXPERT ?

Wheel bearings

put car in N, apply parking break lift the front wheels on stand and rotate the wheels pay attention to any play & sound. take a water hose length of 1 meter put one end to the wheel bearing position & other to you ear (like doctor's stethoscope) you may be able to catch the culprit. front wheel bearing(s)

also get ur wheel bearings checked....
or get it checked from other toyota dealership..
seriously rs 1000 for just gear oil change ???????
come on give me a break ........
it just rs 100 if u get it changed from a honda dealership for civic.......i think they are ripping you off....

Open the lower chamber of the gear box and see if there is any dent. The bearing sound starts to come when the oil is not flowing proper through the transmission. If there is any chamber on dent it blocks the flow of oil through filter.

First of all open the chamber, then look out for any dents . if there is any remove it.

Then see if the filter is clean. its right inside the chamber.

After doing these things put CVT-TC oil recommended for toyota vitz CVT transmission. All 4 litre will come inside it if u put it through the right place .

Hope this solves your problem. Vitz has cvt transmission and its oil needs to be replaced properly at most 40000 kilometres otherwise it will damage the tranny and it costs abt 35000 pkr.

After trying the above things please give feedback.

YES Dear, I have also confirm from Tyota Sialkot motors and Toyota Garden town Motors.. All say Labor is 1000/-
Its VITZ so its parts and labor both are too expensive.. even I change the plugs 6 month back from Toyota Garden Motors, that cost me 3600 for 3 plugs.

Dear I have change the oil, The chanber was clean and toyota people open that chamber and after service they put the new gear oil.. the gear old oil was not in good in quality but quantity was not low..

I am having the exact problem in Alto 06 model and also looking for solution. I have consulted 3 4 machanics and they tested it with different experiments and told that is in gearbox. When i asked them that why the noise (Goonj) is also there when while running you make it neutral. He said in that case one part of gearbox is moving . (some main KARRA/Garari (urdu word)).

One mechanic said its due to hard tyres but i verified this by replacing the all tyres with some other Alto and no effect. So..
They said its not sure that after opening/repairing gearbox this noise will fix. Its very frustrating and irritating while driving. Don't know what to do.

Any feedback regarding ur Vitz ?

It"s been almost 3 months that you last posted a reply on this thread. So you may have got this problem fixed. That's good. But if it's not the case then I'll narrate my experience with 2003 Civic, which I bought in 2008.

It was manual, and this sound was coming from gearbox. I noticed it a few days after the purchase. Showed it to 3 Honda dealerships but all were clueless as to how to fix it. The new manual gearbox in 2008 used to cost Rs. 250,000/- and second hand Rs. 60,000/- All 3 dealerships advised me not to get it replaced because they could not find any fault with car's drive. I showed it to a numder of other mechanics but everybody was of the view that replacing it with a new one was not feasible, and getting a used one may not necessarily solve the problem.

I recently sold the car at good price because it was otherwise very well maintained and without a single fault. The buyer was a workshop owner himself and bought it after thoroughly checking it.

You may just wait for a while and sell this car (if it fits in your plans).

Problem was solved with change of gear bearing.. i did it not from Toyota authorized but from Auto gear specialist at Model Town Lahore, coasted me 23000 with gear oil+bearings + labor.

Faizan, it seems your and mine problem is same as u said sound was also there when u put it in neutral.
Can you plz tell what sound it was. can u explain the sound (in urdu). And what was the intensity / loudness because in my case its very frustrating to drive at high speed

because to whom i have consulted are not 100% sure that problem will be fixed or not. As gearbox is genuine i don't want it unless its sure that issue is there

Also can u tell me the address / contact number of the workshop

Visit Auto Gear Specialist in Model Town.
I had same problem in white 05 vitz and i ended up with half new transmission replaced.
It happens because of low oil level or if non CVT oil is used

Dont ever shift to N while the vehicle is moving, specially a CVT. btw welcome to "JDM istaan" where the cars are japanese orphans and our mechanics including dealerships are trying to make them run.You have one experience, now imagine if you needed to do something big. You will promptly scrap the car after learning of the cost.

Civic2s That is top up of Gear Oil not flushing and change. For a complete change this is the cost or even more for bigger cars
