The Geely Emgrand may seem like a step in the wrong direction on the surface for Geely, creating yet another new brand which needs building and strengthening may seem like a foolish step for a young Chinese automaker, however Geely are reaping the rewards all ready.
The first model in the Emgrand line up is the EC7 sedan, which was soon followed up by the EC7-RV hatchback. The EC7 series have reached monthly sales of 6000 units, which is especially interesting as the Emgrand dealer network is only at 150 dealers so far.
Strong sales have so far been attributed to the cars ability and not any price cuts or other activities. However one stumbling block so far for the EC7 is the lack of an automatic transmission; with automatics being the most popular form of transmission in automobiles in China, it is fundamental that you launch a car with an autobox, Geely are planning to launch an autobox later this year which will further increase sales.
