Gilgit to Karimabad in mid-March, possible by bike?

Hi guys, I will arrive in Gilgit in a couple of days and was thinking of renting a motorbike for two days only and head up the KKH a bit and then back. Some questions:

• Does it sound reasonable to drive to Karimabad/Baltit Fort on day 1, spend the night there, then drive back to Gilgit on day 2? Or would you recommend some other (perhaps more scenic) route?
• Is the road open and in good condition (no snow/ice)?
• Is the road paved all the way to Karimabad? What is the traffic like?
• Where can I rent a motorbike in Gilgit?

were you able to rent a bike in gilgit?
coz we are also planning to visit khunjrab pass from gilgit on rented bikes.

I ended up not renting a bike, since it was quite bad weather when I was there (raining), so I rented a car and driver instead.

I was told that it would be hard to find a bike in Gilgit, and if successful, it would not be the same quality bikes that you can get elsewhere. But I don't know for sure.
