GL Saloon or SE

Hi I have been seeing these models in Corollas, 86/88, can anyone tell me the difference in all these and preferably their full form:-

1. GL
2. DX
3. SE
4. XE

as per my info .. DX is the most basic model , then comes XE and GL .. SE is supposed to be most loaded one

@usman666: thanks bro, that's appreciated. Do you have any idea of their full forms? Like for SE i know its Special Edition... what could be for DX,GL etc?

dont remember that much .. back in early 90's when 86 and 88 shape corolla were hot cakes .. Dx used to be the most basic model.. no power windows etc , all manual ...dont remember XE but GL was one with almost all the options and was 1.3 too .. SE's came with 1.5 engines too and i remember few 88 model SE's came with maroon interior with extended gauges and extended tail lamps with diff front grille..

wow informative... actually I have been looking for clean 88/86 for long travelling... and luckily got one... its 86 GL Saloon so just want to know what I have got

hi bro gl is base model in 86 corolla n se comes equipped with adjustable power steering n power side view mirrors

DX = Deluxe

GL = Grand (don't exactly remember) Luxury

SE = Special Edition

XE was not introduced in those corollas. The addition of saloon with all the abbreviations was in the reconditioned models. The originals was only DX and GL while 86 corolla was itself a special edition car as it had a sticker on the right fender stating the same.

82 corolla had SE variant in the original ones but it was too congested from inside.

I am only narrating for JDM Corolla's
1982
1,DX > was basic with fabric seats A/C short steel black bumpers
2,DX Extra> with powered rear view mirrors on fenders and hydraulic bumpers
3,GL in addition to above with wood trims velvet seats big head rest.
4SE in addition to above were 1.3ltr but this was 1.5 ltr and some came in auto transmission.

1986
1,DX> basic model 1.3 ltr engine with fabric seats,blue shaded glasses,rear view mirrors on fenders.mostly came in solid colors.
2,DX Saloon> rear view mirrors were on doors,variety of metallic colors and some came with option of Power steering and auto transmission.Grey interior
3,GL LIME> in addition to above with rear garnish lights on trunk and different bumper with show grill.
4,GL Saloon> in addition to above with brown interior,glasses larger headrest on velvet seats some came with the option of auto transmission.
5,GL Saloon Limited> with chromed trim panels even on tail lights,some came with multi positioned driver's seat RPM meter different steering wheel and velvet door inner trims some came with optional power windows,power mirrors and alloy wheels.
6,SE Saloon Limited> with 1.5 engine in addition to above all with PW PS PM climate control alloy wheels.
7,SE Saloon Limited> same as above with the option of Grey velveteen interior.
8,GT> A true motor sports blend of that era with 1.6 twin cam engine 4 wheel Disc brakes,sport seats, steering wheel,grill and exhaust.
9,DX Saloon and SE Saloon Limited were also available in diesel engine.

1988
Almost all specs of 1986~1988 were same only brown interior was replaced with maroon interior,digital meter was introduced,Dials and lever of A/C heater panel were replaced with smart touch buttons DX Saloon renamed with TX,all GL's were renamed with XE but SE Saloon Limited had the same badge and above all GT came with the option of a Sunroof.
