Glass Coating?

When you don't know what, when and how to do something, people WILL take advantage of your situation and rip you off. That's how things work in a morally degraded society. Those who oppose this may not survive in the business due to extensive lobbying.
However, one shouldn't just be fooled by the cost of the product alone. One should also count in the cost of products and efforts required in prepping and finishing the process, not to mention the cost of electricity, water, rental charges etc. These are services, if you don't want to pay for it, learn it and experiment it yourself else let the professionals do their thing. Just my two cents.

Exactly.... Thats what Mr @Sdogar is not calculating. All the other expenses which are incurred in prepping a car to be flawless and ready to be glass coated. Only compound polish is Never sufficient for these coatings.
Let me tell my process:
1)Wash
2)Clay
3)Again Wash (To get rid of the loosen contaminants)
4)Depending of the condition (Either Compound OR Light Cut Polishing) to remove swirls and imperfections
5)Finishing Polish OR Glaze
6)I P A Wipe (To get rid of the polishing oils in the paint for proper bonding of Coating with the painted surface)
7) Glass Coating OR Sealant

Now comes the expense of Labour / Electricity / Rent / Misc Expense / Products / Tool Wear & Tear etc...MOST IMPORTANTLY I would put my Share above these all. Afterall if after providing all these services with top brand products and investing 10 - 12 hours on a single car, If I am not earning anything, why would I be doing this ??? Do u see any point ?..

So, to get good services You have to spend good. Not overly priced! but reasonably priced.

Secondly Bro, Car detailing comes under "Services Industry" You can never compare service charges with others. Some provide low level services and some provide niche services. Both would be on opposite ends if monetarily compared.

The link of Amazon says 64$ for the Cquartz coating. Order it and get it delivered to Pakistan. You,ll see the frieght and custom duty charges for yourself. We are importing Nanolex coatings from Germany and hence i know that the price you see on your screen is way too low from the price you actually pay to get the product in your hands.

I have already included the cost of importing,which is 7000,i have taken a quote from an importer and that is what it is. I have already added the price to prepare the surface and that is also reasonable, every industry and service has a reasonable margin of profit but getting double amount from cost(100 % profit)is not fair. My purpose was to inform people about the reality of these polishes and cost, since these coatings are in initial stages so people are taking advantage, with time and competition they will get to levels where it should.

1. In simple terms, glass coating is usually silica based colorless liquid glass in a bottle. As soon as it comes into contact with air it starts to harden and solidify over 12 to 24 hours and becomes a hard glass coating when you apply it over your vehicle surface.

1. When you coat a dark colored vehicle it will add depth to your paint because coating will create a shiny smooth surface which will reflect light much better than regular paint. It will also repel water and dust much better than regular paint surface but the most important part is that it will protect your paint from light scratches, light stone chips and most of all it will protect it from light swirl marks caused by wiping a dirty car with dry/slightly damp cloth like most service stations do. Is it necessary to glass coat a vehicle? That is totally upto you. If you think that the cost is worth the pros of having the car coated then you should have it coated otherwise just use a nice quality wax every week which will give your car the shine but will be nowhere near as protective as a nano-coating will be.

2. CONS:
   It is relatively expensive then other detailing products. ( But if your consider its advantages then the price sometimes seems justified)
   Most glass coatings are based on Silica SiO2 which is basically POISON. Be-careful when applying it, try not to inhale the fumes directly from bottle. Never eat anything off the coated surface or near an open bottle. Some glass coatings have an active cleaning agent added to it in the form of isopropyl or any other form of alcohol which basically makes the coating highly INFLAMMABLE.
   In my opinion nano-technology based ceramic coating is much much better in this regards as it is totally inert. Fire resistant, Has better UV protection which means that if you coat your car's windows with it as well then your car will be considerably cooler in sun then any other untreated car which is a blessing in our summers when you have to park a car under sunlight. Ceramic coating are used around the world not only for coating cars but for coating many surfaces, for example solar panels, kitchen counter-tops, even expensive clothing items can be ceramic coated for protection against water, dust, stains, UV, oxidation and other chemicals.

I hope that I have answered your questions to the best of my knowledge and i hope that this will be helpful to you.

I have access to a nano level digital microscope at work which can reveal a billionth of a meter size particles in any material. We have a whole department of material science engineers, if anyone has any questions in this regards, feel free to ask me. If I can't answer it then I will have it answered from an experienced material science engineer. Inshallah.

People back then werent aware of what car care is but now there are professional detailers and car care products are readily available in most big cities

He is right, Royal Sheild was a fraud and literally wrecked the paint because it was a teflon coating applied on the car. It would fade out in patches. On the contrary the tough coat, glass sealant etc are good and dont affect the paint of the car.

I would recommend people in Islamabad to get it done from Carbographics (you can find them on FB). I got my car done a year back and it costed me 10000Rs. The car was Civic Reborn and they really did an incredible job. But you also need to be vigilant because they were saying that they will apply coat and I can take the car. It was raining and I said to them that u need atleast 8 hours for it to harden and I wont take the car in the rain. Then I said to the guy to talk to Mr Ahmed Yar (Carbographics buy products from Ahmed Yar) and they got convinced easily. So I am very satisfied with the result.

In my experience the guy at carbographics is an honest guy. He tells you beforehand that jet seal is just a sealant and will provide protection for 6 months to 1 year. He has never claimed jet seal sealant to be a nano coating. He also does glass coatings but glass coating is ofcourse a bit expensive compared to chemical guys sealant.

I met him when Ahmad bhai came to Islamabad few days back, we had a small meetup where Ahmad bhai taught everyone how to glass coat a car and everyone got to do a panel. Will visit him sometime for getting transfer printing on some interior panels.

Yes, he told me about this meeting. I couldn't be there because of my workload from job. If I am not wrong, the canvas was a black reborn civic which belongs to the owner of carbographics. I will visit him and check the results of that glass coat soon inshallah.

Yes it was his own car and it got only one coat whereas two are preferred.

I got it done a year ago when Jet seal wasn't available. They used Auto finesse tough coat and they called it lamination.
