Going to Dubai on holidays; Do i need polio Certificate?

Hello all,

i have a sad embarrassing questions, i am travelling to uae for holidays with my friends. I am a common pakistani. do i need a polio certificate and vaccination in advance before i arrive to board my flight?

i will be flying on the weekend, can i get the polio thing get done at Benazir Airport (Rwp) or do i have to get the certificate from a government hospital and carry it along with my passport to airport?

Better get vaccinated before you go to airport. Visit hospital or a travel clinic. Travel agents also arrange health certificates on payment. You should keep it with passport. Airports have random checks, not from everyone. They do have thermal imaging cameras installed to get temp reading of visitors.

I flew out of Islamabad on Etihad last Thursday and didn't see any counter for this or someone checking these certificates.I was travelling on British passport so maybe that's the reason they didn't ask for it.But I for sure didn't see any clear signage or posters about polio certificates or vaccination counters.

You are better off getting vaccinated. As said above, there are no counters on Islamabad airport and while I was travelling few days ago to London (on a Pakistani passport) none checked my certificate but you should still get one. Schengen states for instance have made it mandatory to get one before applying for visa.

Go to holy family hospital in rawalpindi (or any public hospital) and get vaccinated for free. You will need to take your passport with you and they can only issue you the certificate the next day - don't expect them to do anything urgently.

Just a brotherly advice. Do not carry any medicines with you. even legal ones. Some are banned in Dubai. They put you in jail for several years. Yes, I'm talking about common medicines, not illegal drugs. Many British ended up in prison.

lolol...i have travelled before to uae and britain quite a few times, its just that this time i have heard a polio certificate is needed :S

i dont have much time to do the certificate bit as i have lots of work to do before i go on my holidays, totally stuck in office. i am sure there probably be an easier way

I travelled out with my kids few days ago, in fact last saturday. Nobody asked about such certificate. But to be on safe side, get one from govt hospital. 10 mins work only.

isnt it supposed to attack you when you are young and can do anything with you once you get into your adult hood.

Even though it attacks you when you are little, you can still potentially become a "carrier" of the disease, hence the vaccination. Perhaps a medicine student or a doctor on the forum would be able to confirm or reject.

My mother traveled- She didn't have to show her certificate, I traveled, didn't have to show mine.
We both got them as precautions, in case we do get randomly stopped.

Better to be on the safe side and get that done and over with- At the end of the day, it's valid for a year.

Got the polio card made today from polyclinic hospital islamabad. Disgusting place to be at. Horrible staff horrible people filthiest hospital. Got it made in 15 min after intense argument because the doc who would sign it said he is on visit which i later bombarded his room and found he was sitting inside and asked him to sign it asap as i have no time to waste.

Depends on the mood of the authorities.

I travelled in January and they didn't let me through without it, whilst my friend travelled to Dubai in March and he was given a free pass.

Yes yes there is, right in front of the immigration counter, where they have photocopiers and they don't charge you as well.
They will give a small yellow card once the drops are given to the person.
