First of all let me tell you that i like tourism and adventure specially in Pakistan's northern areas as they are heaven on earth and this thread is for information to take safety measure but not to scare you.
Last weekend night my ex-company colleagues from Islamabad about 15 in total booked a coaster and reached Dorian in Neelam valley. From there they booked two jeeps and went to Ratti Gali lake, they apparently booked very nice looking jeeps and drivers seems to be expert and regular for the route.
They stayed overnight in Ratti gali lake and left early morning around 6:30 from the lake back to Dorian.
On their way back one jeep was ahead 5-7 mins than the other jeep and my friend told me that this driver was driving much faster than usual, though it was steep when coming back but still it apparently looked he was in some hurry.
Few of my friends asked him, is everything ok? but he said yes all good, probably he knew that something is wrong but he was hiding so that the passenger don't get panic or any negative kind of response....
All my colleagues kept calm until the jeep started to go like roller coaster on the steep slop and driver even didn't say a single word and in order to stop the jeep he collided with a rock on the left side and jeep got upside down once and stopped....
Apparently the brakes failed and not sure why he cant control on gear or something else....
All this happen within few seconds so the guys couldn't get a chance to hold themselves except the guys sitting on front seat who tried to open the door but couldn't get out of jeep. The jeep was hit so hard with rock that all the guys including driver got seriously injured having multiple fractures and unfortunately two guys died, possibly one of them at spot.
The other jeep behind came there in few mins and they helped the injured to get them out and local people gathered there as well, first of all they sent the seriously injured one to Athmuqam hospital which is approx 2 hrs drive, and then less injured ones and other 1 day they have been moved to Muzaffarabad CMH.
Things to notice here:
- Whenever you go on a trip, always do some research about the area.
- Choose your ride carefully, if possible check yourself or ask about the vehicle condition.
- Wear proper gear to protect yourself.
- Always keep first aid kit with you.
- Learn how to do first aid and CPR in case of emergency.
