Google map distance is accurage?

guys my odometer showing 24.65km in my car
and in google map it shows 23.2 km....
which one is more accurate?

i am trying to calculate mileage of my car

Off course the one on your odo.. Google measure distance using sattelite imagery scaled. There is a little margin of error while satellite measures. Even the temp, weather at time of shot also impact the measurement..

+1 odo is accuurate than the google measures

Take a meter along with you.. and calculate it urself... may b.... meter show you an other reading...

google maps may or may not be accurate (although I don't think google maps is that inaccurate, it should be correct to plus/minus 20meters), but GPS is more accurate than car meter.

the car could have tyres of different size than original(probably bigger), or it could have different tire pressure or he could have gone zigzag (which would increase the distance). There's ALOT that could go wrong with the car odometer reading. and not nearly as much with google maps. and gps data can be considered to be almost absolutely flawless...

and u are civil engineer, you know how they(i mean u guys) use radios to make sure the building is straight, or the distances are within specs...

This is not entirely correct; at least not in generalized form. Google maps api uses the actual mapping data which is physically collected by google mapping vehicles and other such outsourced operations. Collected data includes gps coordinates among many other data points. This data is used to calculate the travel distance between two points based on the selected route.

I do not know what google does if this mapping data is not available.

If you suspect that your odometer may not be correct, you can use any gps device to get accurate distance readings.

Bro actually i didnt change tyre.... Its same stock size and odometer is analog one....

I feel tht google map is measuring straight line distance and doesnt take road elevation into account

In reality, car changes lanes... And doesnt drive in same straight line...

The funny thing is that it was accurate from point a to b.... But from b to a it was 1 km inaccurate...

all mapping data is available since a long time, actually since they started using gps for aeroplanes and thats a long time ago. So its hard to believe if someone says the maps are inaccurate.

most probably they use the old maps. and just align the new satellite images with them...

it could be that the gps was not getting full signal etc.....

im not using gps, i mapped the same route on maps.google.com

the gps is horribly inaccurate, 1.2 miles when i travel 500m. maybe signal problem.
and the path on the map too shows that, zig zag weird lines on map...
