Few months ago I spotted Google Street view mapping car ( SEE BELOW) in Manhattan NY. If you have Google maps or Google earth you might have seen the Google street view options. These cars ( Ford Focus, VW beetle, Subaru Impreza, Prius, Hyundai Sonata and Santa FE, some paddle powered trikes and motorbikes) are fixed with very sophisticated 9 cameras connected with GPS technology, which takes the real imagery of the streets and upload it to the Google maps. USA is almost complete with street view but they are still scanning streets to update maps. Some countries ( rather towns in different countries) in Europe have shown their privacy concerns so Google haven't mapped it yet. Govt Of India also shown they reservations and Google is not mapping India as well.
Google street view blur out the cars plate # and any human faces. Google have started even mapping within airport terminals, major shopping malls, and no to forget underwater view. see this link
