There is a saying used a lot in Pakistan which is "bekaar khaata" and "beth ke khaayenge" - while bekaar khaata is an actual term used in ancient urdu/hindi for suspense account, people have started using that for other things too.
anyway
people look at govt job as a relaxed, no nonsense, no challenge, confirmed pay, paid medical, paid pension gig and will happily downgrade to half their life quality just to get this.
While one can easily do all of the above in private jobs and own businesses, they still want the ultimate relaxation of not waking up on time, yawning to work and taking forever leaves. (typical sarkaari naukri)
another bit is marriage, Just sit in any social gathering, you can have Dr of Engineering or current patent holder at the table but people will be flocking to the "sarkari mulazim" to ask for literally everything including bringing tissue papers to them. For them the sarkari guy is more important than a scholar for just even casual conversation.
Cannot help such kind! best laugh at them and look at them as if they are lemmings.
The other chapter that I have come across was so shocking that I had to cut relations with those people completely. One guys literal words were.
"Allah ka karam hai ke abb mein rishwatt wasool karne ke qaabil hogya hoon - maa ki dua hai ye sabb"
This guys entire reason for getting into civil service was to collect bribes and get rich. - And you wonder why dollar is 200 Rs nowadays.
