depends on equipment, if you can fully disassemble it to bits (all plastics - if equipped) - then nothing beats a soda wash after removing the bulk of it with paper rags etc.

Also do you know which is a good grease to use on steering rack and for filling tie rod boots? Factory manual only says to use lithium grease for steering rack and no mention for tie rod. Any other place in steering assembly which requires grease?

manual racks take NLGI-00 fluid grease. The tie rods and ends are sealed nowadays - unless you replace parts which have grease zerk fitting provision. Then you have to grease them regularly with GC-LB rated grease.

Thanks, it's of a old Cultus which has manual steering, fsm doesn't mention the consistency of grease. My main concern is to minimize any friction due to greases.

dear, now nail polish removers are coming acetone free, as acetone is not good for skin.

i found brake cleaner quite good for cleaning greasy/muddy/oil stuff. similar effect of acetone.

crc, liquimoly brake cleaners are available.

Brake cleaner also evaporates quickly as per my experience. And I believe spirit can also be used in place of acetone but acetone is much more effective and costlier too.

personally used both liquimoly and crc brake cleaners. they evaporate fast leave an extremely dry and cold surface.

good or bad no need to check, you need to check the acetone content.

I dont use hydrocarbon cleaners anymore as they attack your liver, ethyl ethyl ketone and methyl ethyl ketone are residue free cleaners but can severely damage you.

I use soap and water now for the most part - cleans just as well. - soap = industrial surfactant.

Dear Bhai Xulfiqar,
I want to select the appropriate grease for my car KIA Classic tappered bearing. where i can get it in karachi and what will be the right type. actually fed-up of changing wheel bearings and i feel this is the case of wrong grease.
