Great Wall Motors – China’s largest SUV and utility vehicle manufacturer recently unveiled the new Wingle CL at the Shanghai Motor show. The SUV line-up of GWM called the ‘Haval’ has been one of the largest selling SUVs in China and with its product line ‘Wingle’ the company attempts to tap the utility truck market. The Wingle CL concept is the newest luxury addition to the family wherein CL stands for ‘China Leading’. The looks are bold and experts liken it to the indestructible Toyota Hilux’s. With dimensions of 5.35 X 1.8 X 1.85 m (LxWxH), this beast even manages to dwarf the mighty Ford F-150. At present, there are two engine options are at disposal. The in-line four cylinder 2.0L petrol mill: code named 4C20 produces a healthy 214 bhp. The diesel unit of the same capacity called the 4D20A and produces 148bhp with 310Nm of torque. If rumors are to be believed, the company is also planning for a 3-Litre V-6 for this flat bed truck. From the details provided by the company, the CL will come fully loaded with seven airbags, stability control, eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, DVD player and active cruise control. With a wheelbase of 3.35 m, it will be longer than most of the flat beds available and almost at par with the Toyota Tacoma. Though GWM has had a promising time with a healthy growth pattern over the years in the domestic market, the exports have been a matter of concern as the numbers refuse to pick up. The Wingle CL is undoubtedly GWH’s attempt to change the trend and make headway in truck loving markets such as U.S. and Australia. While the Wingle family of utility trucks has already managed decent sales figures in Australia, the CL is expected to take a step forward by providing a bigger and feature rich product at an effective price.
