Assalam-o-Alaikum brothers!! I need to evaluate the practicality of rhe project which I am thinking to start soon Inshallah which is preparing a gs500E for touring purpose.
what is gs500e?
The Suzuki GS500 is a popular entry level motorcycle manufactured by the Suzuki Motor Corporation. Suzuki produced the GS500 and GS500E from 1989 onwards and a fully faired model, GS500F from 2004 on wards. It is considered as reliable and solid motorcycle. Great fuel economy and big tank. Should have range of over 225 miles. A bit wheezy at low RPM and cold blooded. Carb fiddling should solve that, open air box up too for better throttle response. The original "naked" model would be the better travel bike. This bike is easy on tires, chain/sprockets. Bullet proof motor, air cooled, carbs, good lights, solid rear subframe for luggage. Suspension weak, needs heavier springs for serious travel and improve ground clearance.
Precedence:
This guy barthoi travelled from Ireland to Japan, travelled through half of Europe in three months and took thid GS500 to very difficult roads and off road. According to him Valve clearances must be checked after every 10k km.
Parts to be kept for trip Bridgestone BT45's, spark plugs, probably a set of brake pads, oil and filter.
