Guangzhou Auto Corp (GAC) are using their recently bought Alfa Romeo 166 platform to the best of their ability, first they launched the awkwardly named (but very elegant looking) Trumpchi sedan and now they are planning to launch the X-Power SUV. The X-Power SUV was first unveiled last year in concept form and this is the first time that pre-production renders of the car have been seen, it appears that the SUV is staying quite true to the concept cars form in terms of styling although the rear lights have been changed. Engine power is likely to stay the same, with Alfa’s 2.0L block doing most of the work for the X-Power SUV. An eventual launch date has not yet been announced but it is expected to be in the next few months and the Shanghai Auto Show will see its first unveiling.

The Guangzhou Auto Trumpchi sedan debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show in December 2010. The only engine available was a a 2.0. That however will change soon when a 1.8 hits the market. The new engine is expected within two months.

Power: 140hp and 161nm. To compare, the 2.0: 150hp and 183nm. The Trumpchi 2.0 costs between 122.800 yuan and 189.800 yuan. Price of the 1.8 will start around 100.000 yuan.

The Guangzhou Trumpchi is based on the Alfa 166 platform. Guangzhou Auto bought the platform from Fiat in 2007.

GAC Trumpchi was so far available with 2.0 liter engine only, however a 1.8 liter version has now been launched in order to attract more buyers. The 1.8 pumps out 140hp and 161nm, which is mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

[I][I]It appears that the Chinese media are in a tizzy over the X-Power’s platform, some are saying its Alfa based, otherwise are leaning towards it being based on a Changfeng CS7 platform which itself is based on the second generation Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero[/I].

[/I][I]We have seen the SUV in concept form before now at the Guangzhou Auto Show last year, where it was known as the GAC X-Power SUV and we have seen it out testing at least a few dozen times since then, but we’ve never seen it in the naked flesh before. Auto 163 have taken all of the leaked pictures of the X-Power SUV posted to the internet before now and put their thinking hats on to render what the new SUV might look like when it is unveiled next month at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2011. Apparently the SUV will be carrying 1.8L and 2.0L engines with the possibility of some turbo charged units coming in the future.[/I]

The city of Guangzhou in Guangdong province has ordered over a 100 brand-new Guangzhou Auto Trumpchi police cars. The Guangzhou police gets the 1.8l Twin-spark engine & comes with the usual police-equipment on board.

The hybrid electric version of GAC Trumpchi Sedan will go on sale later this year, Zeng Qinghong, the GM of GAC, told reporters recently. Its power-train comprises the same 1.8L engine found on the standard, non-hybrid versions, an integrated starter-generator (ISG) in the front and a generator coupled with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for the back axle. Both 2WD and 4WD options will be provided.

When in low speed, the hybrid Trumpchi will be fully electric, propelled solely by the electric motor drawing power from a lithium-ion battery pack. As the speed picks up, the internal combustion engine will take over and re-charge the battery. Regenerative braking is employed to save energy.

Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC), a partner of Honda, Toyota, and Fiat, announced the pricing of its first SUV model, the Trumpchi GS5. The GS5 has two engine options, a 2.0 liter and turbo 1.8 liter. The six 2.0L versions are priced between 123,800 Yuan and 186,800 Yuan, while the one 1.8T version sells for 229,800 Yuan and will go on sale later.

Sharing platform with the Trumpchi sedan, the GS5 has a 2710mm wheelbase, which is slightly longer than that of the common compact SUVs like VW Tiguan and Honda CR-V. It stands 4732mm long, 1854mm wide, and 1680mm tall. Front suspension is of the double wishbone type, and multi-link is for the rear.

The 2.0L engine, rated at 108kW/6300rpm and 187Nm/4500rpm, is mated with a 5MT or 5AT to form 2WD power-train. The turbo-charged 1.8 liter, putting out up to 130kW of power and 230Nm of torque, is provided for only one trim level with 5AT and real-time 4WD.

The 1.8T and premium 2.0AT models come with such upscale features as dual-zone climate control, rear-view camera, AFS Xenon headlights, touch-screen DVD/GPS system, TPMS, cruise control, one-touch start, etc.
