Guide regarding buying toyota surf (1989-1995)

Hi I want to buy toyota surf 2nd gen. I'd appreciate basic help around it
1. Price range?
2. My most traveling is on highways and motorways which engine would be best fit for this which is less prone to issues like heating up
3. Recommended engine common issues for which i need to look for.
4. In context of less break downs is it good or i should look for hilux, if yes please suggest which model or engine.
My questions may seem basic but a basic first step guide is needed.

my budget is around 20-22
i like surf by the look of it also I want it so it can carry 5 people and luggage for long journeys i have a perception in mind that its a reliable suv it can travel without problems like getting heat up and things like that
i know about cars but not that much never had an suv before

Toyota Surf was discountinued in 2009. The replacement SUV is 4Runner which shares the mechanical interchangeability with LC Prado, in terms of steering, power train & suspension. look around with surgical precision and you can safely buy a clean (in terms of import documentation & local registration) 4runner in that budget. Budget is too low for a clean surf. In this budget you will have to buy a vehicle that needs work and then get it fixed. Which is a whole different ballgame, if you have the time and funds for it. Go for it
