The Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Co Ltd is a Chinese holding company whose subsidiaries make minivans, small motor vehicles and automobile engines.<sup id="cite_ref-about_0-0" class="reference"></sup> Subsidiaries include the auto-making Hafei Motor Co Ltd<sup id="cite_ref-1" class="reference"> </sup>and the engine maker Harbin Dongan Auto Engine Co. Hafei has exported its products to a total of 40 nations so far.

The Saibao III is a Pininfarina designed sedan which was launched in year 2005. Measuring 4434*1708*1471mm, Saibao III uses a licensed Mitsubishi DA4G18 1.6l in-line 4 cylinder SOHC engine under its hood. The 101hp engine produces 133 N-m of torque and can reach a top speed of 180km/h while the average fuel consumption per 100km is only 7.7 liters. Emission standard is Euro III. Standard equipment includes airbags, ABS with EBD, electric windows, parking assistant, satellite navigation, cd player and Bluetooth capability.

Despite exporting its products to more than 40 nations including Chile, Russia and Srilanka, Hafei cars are rare outside of their home region of north-eastern China. Price of Saibao III starts from 63800rmb (7.9 lac PKR) to 85800rmb (10.6 lac PKR)

The Chinese central government plans to consolidate the Chinese car industry, which has over 130 different manufacturers and brands. The first to merge were SAIC and Nanjing MG, which made them into a regional power house. The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) had two car making ventures in China, one was the Changhe Automobiles, and the second was Harbin’s Hafei Automobile, these two entities were signed over to Chang’an Automobiles.

The Chang'an takeover also included Changhe’s Suzuki joint venture and Harbin Dongan Auto Engine Company which also has a joint venture with Mitsubishi Automotive Engine. Hafei Autos thus becoming a subisidiary of giant Chang'an Automobiles.

Chang'an is now working to launch the electric E30, based on the Saibao III. And together with electric version, the 'regular' Saibao III is also getting a refreshment. Saibao III will get slightly different face and also new logo..

The Changan E30EV (based on the Hafei Saibao) will debut at Beijing Auto Show in April 2012. The electric motor gets power from a lithium-ion battery pack and pops out 45kw, good for a 125km/h top speed.. No figures on range available as of yet.
