Hands brake light on by pressing brake paddle

Salam dear PWs. I have JDM alto 2004.
When i press brake paddle, Hand brake light on, which of after some time. Every time i press the brake same thing happen.
Brake Oil level is ok. what would be the problem???

I am facing a problem, when i accelerate, the hand brake light switchs on, no idea where the problem is.

I have the same prob. Whenever i accelerate hard the brake warning light comes on. i have changed 2 brake master cylinders in a year. No idea y they start loosing their pressure after a few months

this is usually a low fluid level problem, you may have a stuck switch. I dont think your cars have electric connected brake pad wear sensors hence thats out. But it can illuminate from the ABS too - in that case both ABS and hand brake warning lamps will light up.

Zulifiqar bhai i have 1993 lx limited corolla with a 5afe motor. initially it had a 2c engine. the fluid never goes down. but still each and every master cylinder im putting in it stops working in 3 to 4 months time. and when i switch on the A/C the feeling of the brakes is such, like im driving a suzuki bolan! They have to be frequently pumped to give the right braking force.

Dear xulfiqar. Thanx for your suggestion. it was brake oil issue. I added 50ml in bottle to its neck.

They have to be frequently pumped to give the right braking force.

When you install a fresh master cylinder, bleed it outside the car properly with pipe attachments and a bottle so you can see air bubbles coming out - Dont rely on the mechanics fingers and spray of fluid to determine good bleed.

After thats done flush out all brake fluid from the wheel cylinder/caliper on every wheel till you see new brake fluid, old fluid absorbs water and makes the brake pedal feel spongy, The rubber brake pipes on the wheels should be changed out also, they are wear out items and are replaced every 5 years in your car.

Do not use petroleum based grease/liquid in any part of the brake system (not even for washing) Do not use it on the brake caliper pins etc. Only silicone grease is used on these. On internal brake parts use only brake fluid.

There is a handbrake switch under handbrake lever, make sure its tight at its exact position, loose switch turns light on, even when everything else is working fine.

Hard brakes only when AC is on could be vacuum leak problem. The brake booster is not getting full vacuum. Check the AC idle up vacuum piping for leakage/connection.

Once i figured out a continuous ON brake light by removing a short circuit of the hand brake lever wire with the floor. It got crushed under the seat support...

AOA sir, a rather old discussion but i am facing this same issue in my recently purchased Suzuki Swift 2010 model. Whenever i accelerate car a bit harder the handbrake light turns on and goes back when i lightly remove my foot. What do you suggest ?
Also another issue i am facing is that powered steering is a bit harder and feels stuck at highway speed. i know its supposed to feel heavy but mine feels stuck (requiring a little bit of breaking force to get it moving)

A parking brake warning light is used to indicate a low brake fluid level and a failed one or both brake lights. Not all models have this arrangement.
A parking light turning on when brake is applied indicates brake lamp failure.
A parking light turning on when ignition is on but parking brake lever is released indicates low brake fluid level in the reservoir.

The problem you are facing is different one and indicates something loose or sticky causing the light to come on.
It could be loose parking brake switch vibrating when car is suddenly accelerated or a vibrating combination meter or a loose brake fluid connector or terminal.

Well in my case the parking brake light wont go off unless i lift my foot off the accelerator pedal. It never misses it and always behaves the same way. Any good electrician or mechanic you'd recommend in Rawalpindi Islamabad ?

I would say rather strange problem. Anyway you need to do some diagnosis in order to understand the real cause more clearly.
1. Park the car in your driveway. Turn ignition switch on (engine not running). Pull parking brake lever, the brake light should come on. Press accelerator pedal the brake light should remain on.
2. Release parking brake lever, the light should go off. Press accelerator pedal like you normally do and see what happens. If the light doesn't come on the problem is related to movement but if it does you need to see a good electrician as it indicates some wiring mishap like. Alteration by a local electrician. Improper installation of anti-theft system (chore switch). Any tampering with the ABS system.
