When you install a fresh master cylinder, bleed it outside the car properly with pipe attachments and a bottle so you can see air bubbles coming out - Dont rely on the mechanics fingers and spray of fluid to determine good bleed.
After thats done flush out all brake fluid from the wheel cylinder/caliper on every wheel till you see new brake fluid, old fluid absorbs water and makes the brake pedal feel spongy, The rubber brake pipes on the wheels should be changed out also, they are wear out items and are replaced every 5 years in your car.
Do not use petroleum based grease/liquid in any part of the brake system (not even for washing) Do not use it on the brake caliper pins etc. Only silicone grease is used on these. On internal brake parts use only brake fluid.
