Hard shifting from "P" to "R"

Just bought an auto txn jdm indus shaped corolla. I feel the gear shifting from P to R and R to P is hard while the shifting among others like R, N, D, 2, etc is fine. Please guide if this is normal or there is any issue?

Get the gear shifter lever lubricated or its cable may also need some adjustment. Normally shifting from P to R or vice versa is quite stiff as compared to other positions.

If the issue is with shifter or cable then why it is not observed while shifting other gears

what I do in my car to avoid this situation is to pull hand brake while car is in neutral release the brake pedal(so the load shifts on the parking brake) then put the transmission in park.

The above procedure is performed while parking car.

Company recommended gear oil for JDM corolla indus is Toyota Geniune ATF T-3

this is normal in civic sometimes u will notice if ur car is at little incline or decline surface and u lift hand brake after releasing brake and putting lever in p.then next time when u start u will get this stiffness.

Also make sure that RPM at idle is not higher than normal.

When a car is on an incline and you put it in Parking, before putting hand brake on, you will feel the stiffness of the transmission in changing from Parking next time. Because you are putting the load on the transmission rather than the hand brake. This is normal behavior.

To avoid it, try to put hand brake before putting car in Parking mode. Also put foot brake on, before releasing hand brake next time.
