Help For Travellers of Gilgit Baltistan

Major Part of Juglot skardu road has been metalled . The shingus area gets frequent landslides and due to the road work carried on by FWO they stop you at many places . For going to Karimabad from Skardu 4x4 is not needed. It will take around 7-10 hrs.

No. I think he has to travel to Hunza from Skardu. From Juglot Onwards KKH is used.

I guess no it’s same old one but I am traveling first time in this region,

Option 1. Karachi - Skardu (flight) - Skardu - Karimabad- attabad- khunjrab-Minapen - Gilgit Islamabad (flight)

Option 2. Islamabad- Gilgit Karimabad ……… Skardu (road) - Skardu to Karachi

Advice which one is good

Google map shows S1 from Skardu and then N35. Total 5 hrs 35 min. ???

It is showing without the road blockages. Add a few hours for that as well. S1 is skardu juglot road. N35 is KKH or Silk route that goes till khunjerab

Thanks, 7 to 10 hrs too much with family it’s mean I have to chose either Hunza side or Skardu . I Guess Hunza is more attractive

yes, there is no other route except via Deosai and Astor..

i would suggest option 2 as it will be your return journey so it should be all in one go to get back to home sweet home particularly when you are with family...

Skardu-Jaglote Road will remain open for traffic this week to facilitate high influx of tourists.

FWO has delayed road blockade till next week.

Earlier, the organisation had announced closure of KKH from Friday evening to Monday for construction work.

For this week they have stopped working on the road to accomodate tourists. Noramlly on fridays they don't work . You can plan accordingly

if you will be on 4x4, why not travel to Skardu via Astor/Deosai after you have visited Hunza side..it will be more scenic and adventurous..

We also visited Kalam over the weekend. We saved ourselves from this rush by learning from a fellow PW’er’s experience. So, we reached and stayed in Mingora a night before i.e. Friday. Left for Kalam early in the morning and reached in 4hours including a breakfast stop. We did the same on our way back the next day and saved ourselves a lot of wait time in rush.

Road there is bad. It is like you get somewhat clean road for a few hundred meters and then completely dirt laden track for next few kilometers. The first 100km stretch from Dasu to chilas demands very careful driving.
We covered 130km in around 4.5 hours. Which means that our average speed was around 24km/hr throughout this time. We just couldn't drive faster there.

We were lucky in the sense that whole road stretch was clear and there was no landsliding. Secondly, thankfully weather was not rainy and we didn't find any mud tracks to navigate through.

Is the car back seat inflatable bed worth purchasing? Specially if you are travelling with kids?
