Details of Area:
Nanga Parbat:
Nanga Parbat (8125 m.) is the western most bastion of the Himalayas. One has to travel completely around the globe to come back to the Himalayas to see such high peaks on our planet. The word 'Nanga' means naked and 'Parbat' is mountain.
Nanga Parbat is also a killer mountain. Many climbers died on it before it was summited by the great Hermann Buhl without supplemental oxygen in 1953. His epic climb is still unsurpassed. We are honored to say that it was at our uncle's clinic in Lahore where Hermann Buhl came to recuperate and was treated for his death-like state.
Nanga Parbat is also located where the continents have collided. Here the Indian plate is going under the Asian plate at a rate of about few inches a year. Consequently, Nanga Parbat is still rising. In fact it is the fastest rising mountain in the world!
This is a land of superlatives. The view of Nanga Parbat from the Indus River is one of the most awesome sights in the world. This largest land escarpment in the world consists of a rise of about 7000 m. from the base of the mountain to its summit. On the other side of Nanga we have the famous Rupal Face; the tallest wall in the world with a sheer 4500 m.
Rama Valley & Rama Lake:
Rama Valley is thickly forested with huge pine, cedar, fir and juniper trees. The valley is about 3300 meters (10800 feet) above sea level and thus is snow covered for 7-8 months of the year. In summer, it becomes lush green; conditions favored by local shepherds.
From here one can trek to east side of the Nanga Parbat (also known as the Killer Mountain), the world's 8th highest mountain.Rama is home to some famous species like: ibex, musk deer, snow leopard and rock partridge .The area is also considered to have plethora of medicinal plants. This valley offers a number of tourist attractions including: sight seeing, trekking, wild life, forest, glaciers and above all the beautiful Rama Lake which is spectacular and eye catching. Rama valley with lush green pastures and tall pine trees is an ideal camp site for the independent travellers.
Nine kilometers away from the beautiful valley of Astore in Northern Area is Rama Lake. Alpine Forests surrounds this lovely lake in the wilderness. The area has many Treks for hikers and some routes are ideal for a jeep safari.
Astore Valley:
Astore Valley (el. 2,600 m (8,500 ft)) is located in Astore District in the autonomous Pakistani regions of Gilgit-Baltistan,previousl<wbr>y in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tarashing - Latobah
Trek through mixed meadows and forest to the Brazhin glacier, cross the glacier to the green meadows fed by mountain streams.
Shaigiri - Rupal Village
Trek through green fields with wild flowers , cross the Nanga Parbat river. There are some springs and at the edge of the Bazhin Glacier. Sight seeing views of Rakhiot Peak and Chongra Peaks of the Nanga Parbat massif can be seen from here.
The Rupal valley is a beautiful forested valley with many pine trees.
Mazeno Base Camp (4,000 m 13,120 ft)
After crossing mountain streams and leaving the woods and pastures behind you will enter the high meadows of the Mazeno valley. Here you will see outstanding views of Mazeno peaks.
Fairy Meadows:
Fairy Meadow is a lush green plateau, at 3300 m, offering a breath taking view of Majestic Nanga Parbat (The Killer Mountain). Many people have called it the "Heaven on Earth". These lush, green meadows and forests lie at the base of Nanga Parbat at the western edge of the Himaliyan range in Pakistan. Fairy Meadows is a very peaceful and relaxing place to enjoy the mountain atmosphere and hospitality of the local people. The name Fairy Meadows is part of the legend that Fairies have their heaven on this lush green plateau.
