Help needed for Corolla Se Saloon 2002 Automatic gear issue

I recently bought corolla se saloon automatic with a mileage of around 116,000KM. But i am facing a unique gear problem regarding this car, i.e. when i start the car in the morning (specially in winter) and move the gear position into D to move forward, the car does'nt move an inch forward. I have to wait for engine to warm up (or something which i dont know) and it took almost 20 to 25 minutes for the car to move forward. I tried to push the car into D2 and DL gear but it does'nt respond. Once the car start running the problem dissappear.Also the car is reversing properly in this position but doesnt move forward.

I changed the transmission oil with ATV but it cant help, also there is no check engine code to diagnose. I inquire the issue with local mechanics and they suggested me to change the gearbox which is quite expensive for me to bear just after purchasing this car.

Kindly if anyone can help me with this unique problem so that i can get rid of this headache. Thanks in advance!!!

Your starting clutch (input clutch) apply piston is trashed or the stack clearance is excessively loose.

It can also be the main pressure regulator valve spring broken in the valvebody or the valve bore is worn out.
Both require deep level transmission work, Very simple job for anyone who works on automatic transmissions.

no please, just visit and ask him to drive the car, wait for his diagnosis, so you need to be very specific about problem only when it is cold, as in transmission oil is cold. I can also suggest you to check the transmission oil cooling lines connected to radiator or not. <-- you may refer this line if that may be an issue. nothing more wait for diagnostics, and charges to resolve the issue.

I have visited Usman Autos, he suggested me to overhaul the Gear Transmission. He said that this issue has come out because of the Pressure plates and the clute plates have been broken or not working properly due to which the car is not responding properly while attempting to pushing it forward in the morning (when engine is cold).
Total work done:
25,000 Parts
5,000 Labour chargee
8,000 Transmission oil (8 litre)
With 3 months Transmission warranty with the hope of Transmission to run a further 100,000 Kms.

Car is now smooth as it was never before and the issue has now been resolve permanently. Alhamdilillah
Just one thing i dont understand that the transmission oil required by this car is 4 Litre and the mechanic says that due to overhauling of the transmission the 1st time oil requirement is 8 Litre.

Upon overhaul the whole system is bone dry and require that large volume of fluid to fill.
When we change the fluid in a working vehicle the required volume is much lesser when system is assembled dry.

Good on the job.

Btw the oil capacity is about 8 litres when fully dry, on assembled transmission the torque converter, accumulators and valve body and cooler circuit holds 4 to 4.5 litres and the remainder is drained from sump.

However if you wish to change about 80% fluid in one shot you can do it from the cooler lines (you will change about 7 litres). And if you want a 99% fluid change you need to do the cooler line flush 5 times over a period of 200 kms. (You will have used up 35 litres of atf)

This is still a good amount, newer larger transmissions of toyota hold 14 litres but you can only change 2 liters at a time from sump drain.
