Help required buying surf

Hi All,

My friend wants to buy a surf 1996/97/98 1KZ-TE (preferably). We can see some good options listed on PW for sale but the problem is that most of those are located in Islamabad and we are from Lahore. We can travel to Isl but we are not 4x4 experts so anyone who can help us checking the suv in isl? Any 4x4 expert here who can provide services to inspect engine/suspension/gear and also to check if its a body change (not interested in any body changed vehicle or amnesty scheme). We cannot rely on ourselves on inspecting the suv and ending up in any kind of disaster as that is what we have heard a bad suv purchase will be a pain in a$$.

Don’t go for the vehicles registered after 2010 either they are custom auctioned or amensty scheme vehicles
Although there are some embassies auctioned vehicles in market registered after 2010 but they are very rare

I have got a 1999 model Toyota Surf with 1KZTE embassy auction, bought in November 2015 at only 99k originally driven, it has done now 151k and al hamd o lillah its one of the cleanest surf.

You may drop by and try it for reference, I am in Lahore.

Bro, whats the issue of buying an Amnesty one....

Actually i am asking because someone has offered me Surf 92/14 3400 petrol, amnesty cleared and all documents are ok.
Asking is around 19.50. but may be he can give at 16.

But do you think that one should buy Amnesty wali? whats about resale? i mean if this serves well then i will keep it for 3-5 years, but incase if its not then what .

Cant say anything about amenesty.

It will serve you very well if well maintained and diesel.
We have kept a 94 1KZ for 5 years and travelled two times to khunjerab pass. No issues at all very reliable.
My ratings for one well maintained surf out of 10:
Relaibility: 10
Comfort: 7
But if it is 1KZ than check their gear ratio because in 92 2l engine came and afterwards people installed 1KZ and the results were the incorrect gear ratio.
I think so 2l are not good engines.
You should go for 94 with its original 1 KZ

i think i might not get any up model like 14 in 1.5 million in karachi.

I've 3 cars right now in garage coure, mehran and xli (2011 - market value 12.75 or + as its total genuine and have kept with extreme care)
So, it will going to replace my Xli. and only purpose of this car will be long route with full family. Obv, more power engine than sedan.

WHATS YOUR VIEW ON THIS? Even i read on some forum that its hard to maintain as compare to SURF.

I guess you can. I saw a 96' model surf manual, 350k driven in Taxila going for 1.5 million. Was in fair condition.

We have kept this same model in 2.4 and as per my knowledge comfort and looks are far more better than surf.
But on highway there is a constant issue of heating up above 90km/hr only in diesel variant.
And also in low profile areas mechanics of this car and parts of these is trouble. Only expert mechanic of pajero can do its work
