Help required mercedes w123

Hello everyone.
I need help regarding a few things i'm mentioning in this post. I'm willing to by a mercedes w123, if any one among you people has experiance with this car kindly guide me with the pros and cons of buying it. secondly, will i be able to fit a newer model petrol engine while replacing the original diesel engine. which engines are compatible with this model.

i own a 123. Good car if if it is in good state..... all parts are easily available....must be around 30-40 years old and engine swap is not a good option for any benz at any stage of life........i will not recommend it .....its diesel engine are one tough machines so better to run it the way it was produced....

if you need a rebuilt on engine my mamo can help you repair that engine he is specialist has worked in dubai and now working in dera ghazi khan for more than 20 years if you want you can visit him in dera ghazi khan(near multan and bhawalpur) ask for naz cinema and he also have one old mercedes engine lying there

hey even i have a w123 .. its a 300D in excellent condition .. i want to get its diesel engine tuned .. thats about it .. if anyone knows how to go about tuning up a diesel engine, would really appreciate the help .. also if anyone knows where i can get parts for it here in khi

What exactly do you mean by tuning it? Are there any issues that you are experiencing with the car?

those old engines required tappet adjustment every 20,000 kms, and if the injection pump was fiddled with, its probably off time too.

Agreed. Taking your old diesel for "Tuning" is asking for trouble. As for the tappet adjustment, these should work nice.

@Xulfiqar Also, one other thing. We talked about the ticking noise on the OM601 on my thread. I've decided to replace the lifters rather than pour synthetic oil. I actually visited a dealership near me and they said the lifters come pre-lubricated but should I also grab something specific to lube the lifters when I'm installing them. I tried finding Lubriplate white assembly grease and Federal Mougal assembly lube but no luck here in Germany. Also, I read quite a lot about INA hydraulic lifters being great (on different mb forums) and I have a store near me too, any feedback on those?

the factory lifters are from INA too. They do come prelubed and pumped, just drop in and install the cam.

on my 606 engine - having 24 of these lifters I redid them by rebuilding them carefully and using mobil1 0w40 in them - there was quite some buildup in the cylinder cavities of the lifters.

you are right abt the asking for trouble part for the OP. I have seen countless mechanics literally fracture/crack the valve guides while trying to set the valve clearances.
