The results are truly amazing, and the way you have cleaned the wheel arches, hats off to you sir!
For those who don't know, cleaning the wheel arches is one heck of a job because of all the bonded dirt, filth, mud and what not, it is a proper workout to get all of that out from there.

Okay, so here it goes. I'll try to answer as many questions that some of you asked me through PM, email, phone calls, text messages, Whatsapp and open forum thread. Do not try to send a note tied to a pigeon's foot please.

Car detailing is on the rise these days. It's a good thing that people have at least learned the term "Detailing" irrespective of the fact that almost most of them still do not recognize it beyond a mere waaaash and paaalish job. Yeah I know that sucks big time. Most of us who have spent not more than 6 hours in total studying about detailing are still at the mercy of people who charge you an arm and legs. Whats more disappointing is that most of us get the car serviced at a local service station and get it polished at the maximum in front of their own very eyes with cloths as if they had been used to clean heavy dirty greasy balls (ball joints.....I meant). I'll deliberate upon the guys who charge Rs.2500-3000/- for a full job later. And if you happened to demand microfiber cloth and Meguiar's Wash and Wax, the local guy is either going to give you a 32-teeth salute or check his middle finger rocketed up behind his back (for you). I don't blame them. I blame you. Yes, you heard me.

With all the glory of the internet, could you please stop Googling Sunny Leone and learn a thing or two about cars and their maintenance? Okay, for starters if you still can't resist her (like me) then keep one or two tabs of the browser open in the background in case you get bored as hell with slang like surface contamination, paint correction, DA and Rotary systems, cutting, rubbing, polishing compounds, sealants, carnuaba wax, synthetic wax, nano technology and microfiber cloth and ...............Huh, you know what? Sunny Leone sounds more appealing, I agree. But how about she wash and wax your ride in a private session, just close your eyes and imagine. Ahaaa! Got your attention now.
Back to the point. Dear friends, your car is a reflection of your personality just as your expensive Tag Huer, Jean Paul Gaultier perfume, iPhone 6, those Levis 501 and Marks & Spencer underwear whose tag you have sworn to pull out and display it outside of your low rise jeans. Correct me if I'm wrong.

From Mehran to McLaren, detailing is something you absolutely cannot ignore. Do it as soon as you get a car because at that time its an investment termed as preventive maintenance instead of falling into the category of corrective repair / maintenance down the road couple of years later specially when you are dying to get the best resale value possible.

I just didn't wake up one morning and exclaimed, Hey! You know what, everybody is detailing, lets just jump into the bandwagon. I've been doing this since 2009 on my own cars and that of friends/family. Many of you respected Pakwheelers have been a source of inspiration, information and learning throughout these years. Internet has been a great source apart from being stung by local service station guys and road-side wala detailers whose Autoshine tube worth Rs.150, Sunsilk shampoo sachets and yellow cloth (with whom they would proudly claim to have detailed a dozen Mercedes Benz). I exactly remember the times when original Cosmic or Soft 99 used to be the kings of the brands and Formula 1 shampoo the heart throb for many of us. Later came Turtle Wax and then Mothers at which point Mothers was like Wolfgang or Dodo Juice in Pakistani detailing world. Meguiars' was obviously for the richest.

Things have changed quite dramatically and in a good way. Meguiar's now stands where Mothers was back in 2011/12. Thanks to aggressive marketing as a result of Ahmed Yar and similar good people who shattered the monopoly of a few. But still we don't have easy access to other brands like Pinnacle, Wolfgang, Simoniz, Menzerna , Swisswax, Collnite etc for those who would like to explore the far side of the black hole primarily due to high costs and distributor/importer interests. Nevertheless, whatever is available is absolutely good enough for what we own, have and are capable of. One thing that we need to understand is that products that claim to be meant specifically for something are not always necessarily an eye-wash or marketing gimmicks. While great results can be achieved in the end, nevertheless, it is to be understood that despite the basics being same all around the world, every manufacturer has a peculiar standard, different suppliers of materials for primers/paint/clear coat and propriety series of processes while painting a car. And that somehow make it interestingly different in approaches towards paint preparation, rectification, treatment, protection or simply detailing. If you understand these basics, you are already 30% a detailer.

@fouadbakht excellent advice. For total noobs like me they can start taking care of their cars with these simple first and economical steps and they can gradually move towards claying, compounding and sealants (don't worry right now about these terms) :

FIRST STEP

The first thing is to forget about "DRY DUSTING" especially those who have drivers, the drivers keep massaging the car dry with peela kapra

Second thing is to throw all peela kapras in dust bin and buy at least six micro fiber towels (But still do not use them on car dry or wet)

The car exterior should always be cleaned with two bucket method (one with shampoo solution and one with plain water). This is no rocket science. When you apply shampoo on car, never put the wash mitt again into shampoo solution and first dip it in plain water bucket and get rid of the dirt it caught. After rinsing it in plain water bucket, then dip in shampoo and work on other panels.

Wash in parts, first upper panels like roof, trunk lid and hood. First hose these parts, then apply shampoo with wash mitt and again hose or rinse with balti and dubba (if water is short )

Wipe, dry with a clean microfiber.

Congratulations. You have done it. You have saved your car from a lots of swirls. You can continue with this routine and after some time think about step 2.

SECOND STEP:

A total noob like me would start purchasing a Quick detailer. It is easy to spray and wipe it after washing the car and it leaves an instant detailed look and gives some protection to you car paint.

A spray wax can also be used as it takes no effort, just spray mist and wipe with microfiber towel.

For cleaning interior an interior detailer spray is handy (throw away that revive all and luster)

After sometime ad an All Purpose Cleaner into your arsenal.

Also get a gel for tires and trims

When you get easy with this routine, only then go to next level, that is claying, compounding, polishing and waxing.

Once you see the change, you will dread taking your car to service station again.

After sometime you may like to invest in a good wax and apply that wax after washes.

Rest you can learn from Google Ustad as Fouad bhai has elaborated in a very lively and candid post above.

I could not have said it better. The two bucket method is something that every Pakwheeler at least having access to loads of forums and advices from gurus like you, Ahmed Yar and AH Bhatti and many more should know and follow. And as @autophile very correctly suggested, it's not rocket science. Detailing is not a once in a life time job. It's your first big step followed by preventive maintenance like the two bucket method as you described. If you don't follow that, don't expect fancy stuff and terms like glass coating and 12 month sealants to work wonders and that you will never ever have swirls throughout the ownership of a vehicle. Had that been the case, products like Blackfire, Collnite and many more would have been out of the window and manufacturers would have been producing only sealants and glass coating products.

i also use to wash my cars with surf and hair shampoos a few years ago.
i had car cleaning clothes which are available for 20 rs
i used cheap 100 rs interior polish for interior diesal or petrol for engine bay and what not but thanks to car care and detailing thread.
one day i posted a pic of my swift and stated as "washed with surf" lol
that day i got badly insulted by detailing gurus and after few days i bought meg wash and wax and 3m paste wax and a few mf towels
after that thanks to @ahmad_yar bhai he came with meg products at cheapest rates
i was totaly noob at that time and im still in some cases but ahmad bhai helped me alot
im glad that now i have used 3m meg and nanoskins products and now wherever i go a common question people ask me is "ye itna chamak kiu rahi hy aur baki gario se ziada chamk rhi hy"
haha and i have to make them understand that its waxed polished etc

With due apology to few business/profit oriented gurus out there (no names), unless there is passion, its just like going to a massage parlour being massaged by Bashira not Bushra. I'd rather see areas around emblems on my car shiny and all crevices / joints lush rather than all these contaminated and the body panels giving off a shine that would last not more than two months. Not that they'll never appear but paying extravagantly for work that doesn't involve passion and truthfulness is something I detest. Fairly speaking, Abdul Hayee Bhatti is a gentleman whose work I clearly admire and is very inspirational. Ahmed Yar is a down to earth gentleman, who will go at lengths and enjoy teaching you and help you as per your budget. As per my vocabulary, detailing means bringing the vehicle to show car level not even show room condition. Do you guys know, at Audi dealerships here in Pakistani, after a PDI, the vehicle is meticulously detailed before being handed over to you. They use SONAX. So, imagine, a brand new vehicle like Audi over engineered in Germany, the standards of which we all know, is detailed before being handed over. Our Corollas, Hondas and Suzukis are well, a different story.
