hellow guys i have a question for all the experts out here , although u wud surely laugh at my question but ..
what is the difference between regular and hi-Octane fuel ???
i have a Corolla GLi ,
1.Can i use hi -Octane fuel in it ?
2.Can it be mixed with regular one ??
3.Where do i get one ???

and last but not the least

What difference wud it make to Engine performance??

first of all.. Why would someone laugh @ your question? Infact your question is a very good one...

Yes you can use High-Octane fuel in it but it's not going to make a lot of difference in the performance... If you ask me I would say it's waste of money.

If you have an old car and the car knocks a lot.. then you should use high octane fuel to reduce knocking... but if your car is running fine... Use regular fuel and save money.

Now days I use 87 Octane... I used to get 93 and 94 octane and pay extra... but it was complete waste of money.

Mixing ... is not really a good thing but if the tank is empty... You can add high octane fuel or vice versa.

and I'm not sure where you can get high octane fuel in Islamabad, Pakistan...

u know what, HOBC also gives a slight inee minee better mileage but its dirtier than regular due to presence of higher number of carbon in it.

i think Hi-Oc available is Pakistan is not more then 91.

used to use it in my 99 khyber a few years back when hioctane was selling for rs.50 . there was a slight change in performance like on super unleaded my ride maxed at 80 kmps n the second gear and 105 on third. hioctane took those figures to 90 on second and 110-115 on third. i also remember hitting 155kmps on a cold winter morning at 6:45 while on my way to college on hioctane. i believe i could have gone faster had it not been the sudden realisation that a khyber is not built to handle such speeds that made me ease down on the throttle. what i want to say is that hioctane does better the performance.

bro i would advice u to use regular fuel as it will save u money. hi octane is gud, but only if that is the recommended fuel for ur car.. n im pretty sure the recommended fuel for corolla/civic is regular.... performance cars like nissan 350z, infiniti g35/skyline have hi octane as their recommended fuel.. so in that case regular fuel does lower their performance.... but for corolla, hi octane does not makes any difference....

You are supposed to use HOBC in high performance engines.
I regularly use it in my Mercedes-Benz CLS 500,&
Toyota Land Cruiser V6,3.4L.
It actually gives me better mileage.
I doubt it if it's gonna make any difference in Corolla.

Hi Octane reduces engine knocking.

I have tried on prado 3.4cc and cygnus.

normal petrol on the above mentioned cars cause engine knocking, if u floor ur accelerator initially when the car is at rest (transmission on D) u can hear the engine knocking.

i tried mixing regular petrol with hi octane but no difference, when i filled it with only hi octane and engine knocking disappeared, i also noticed slightly increase in acceleration and better millage

Just because it has a cool name "HIGH OCTANE" and it cost more, does not make it a "BETTER" fuel lol. If you have a regular car, (ie every single locally made car in this country) then you totally dont need to use high octane. In that case it wont "hurt" your engine but you wont get ANY BENEFIT from it, its just your imagination if you think you are or others say they are.. Take someone's car yourself and go fill it with regular and tell them you put high octane in and see their reaction to "how better it was"

Oil companies make most of their profits off of high octane fuel, its actually regular petrol but it takes more to ignite it. It should only be used in engines with a higher compression ratio, ie if the car says specifically "use high octane / premium fuel only" then those cars its better to use it... but those cars are newer cars and have newer computers and sensors so even if you take a brand new S-Class mercedes or Petrol landcruiser and use regular fuel in it, your unlikely to see knocking, but a slight decrease in performance and milage.

So basically put, there is no reason whatsoever to use high octane in a COROLLA GLI lol seriously, dont waste your money or time.. and yes you can mix it why not its still petrol in the end!!

i use hi-octane in my vitz occasionally. there is a clear difference in acceleration & engine sound when its running on hi-octane... i mostly get it from Shell near hearts international rawalpindi.
