We are hardcore Pakistani enthusiasts who have been into astronomy and skywatching since 1997, so we know telescopes inside out AH. You can see several threads about astronomy and stargazing trips that I've contributed to here on PakWheels. This is the best 3-inch telescope we have ever used! Since it is a refractor, it is an unobstructed design and unlike a small Newtonian or catadioptric telescope, it does not have a secondary mirror to block off a portion of the light entering the telescope. It therefore has very sharp optics, gives a crisp, clean and contrasty image, and is very fun and easy to use. Perfect for beginners and advanced observers alike!
Neil English, who is a well regarded telescope aficionado and author of several books and articles, writes this on page 41 of his book "Grab 'n' Go Astronomy" about this telescope:
"The SkyWatcher Evostar 90-mm achromat is arguably one of the best buys in the small refractor market. Usually touted as a beginner's telescope, it is much more than that. The Evostar 90-mm would embarrass instruments costing ten times its modest cost new. It is super light, super portable and delivers fine views at low and high power. If you're in the market for a no-nonsense 90-mm telescope, this would be the one to go for. Because of its low cost and excellent durability, it would be especially useful to astronomy clubs undergoing public outreach. It would also serve as an excellent telescope for the instruction of undergraduates in astronomy/astrophysics."
Specifications of Sahal Telescopes' brand new, factory-sealed 3.5" f/10 Sky-Watcher AZ3 refractor:
- pristine 3.5" (90mm) diameter air spaced doublet objective lens with 910mm focal length, hence the f/10 focal ratio
- 65% more light gathering power than a 70mm refracting telescope and an incredible 225% more light gathering ability than a 60mm refractor!
- very nice and durable coatings applied to all optical surfaces
- smooth rack-and-pinion 1.25" focuser, which handles heavy 1.25? eyepieces very well
- adjustable focus 6x30mm finderscope with coated glass lenses and metallic body
- 1.25" Wide Angle 25mm focal length eyepiece
- 1.25" Super 10mm focal length eyepiece; this is considerably sharper than other comparable eyepieces we have used, like the Zhummel 10mm
- high-end 1.25" 45 degree erect image Amici prism diagonal; 1.25" 90 degree mirror diagonal available separately
- the whole package weighs an incredible feather light 7.2kg!
- Lightweight aluminum optical tube painted a slick black
- Dew cap/Sunshade
- Pre-assembled tripod for convenient and quick assembly
- Slow motion controls
- Manual pointing and tracking
Instead of a plethora of low quality models, we have only those astronomical telescopes that we know from our years of experience best suit the needs and interests of Pakistani astronomy enthusiasts. Our list of favorite telescopes is biased towards models with several key characteristics: sharp optics, a steady, jitter-free mount, convenient portability and no-fuss ease of use, all at a price that is the best value in its class. This is why we have this top class brand new Sky-Watcher 90mm azimuth-mounted refractor up for grabs for the first time ever in Pakistan in very limited numbers. This price is so low even we ourselves are in awe!
Unlike some early 90mm f/11 OTAs from other brands that we have examined, the paintwork on the inside of the tube is immaculately applied and the baffling is more than adequate, as evidenced by looking up the tube with the diagonal removed.
Unit price is Rs.60'000/- + PKR.1000/- delivery charges for delivery within six working days after your order is received, once the consignment has arrived and cleared from Pakistan customs by 31st August 2019 Insha Allah. Price valid for a US$ exchange rate of PKR.139/- +/- 2. Comes in one 102x42x24 cm3 carton; ships from Karachi. You can easily attach any DSLR or point-and-shoot camera with this telescope by using simple, inexpensive adapters.
There is a very good reason that quite a few people try to sell their used tiny 50mm/60mm refractors and 74mm/90mm Newtonian reflectors on OLX etc. - because tiny telescopes are almost no good for astronomy.
All photos except the last one shot by Talha Zia, @ramizq1 and Sohaib Roomi. The last photo shows the high quality 6x30 finderscope with mounting bracket (both metallic) included as default in the sale.
