Similar thing was about happen with me back in 2018, when a famous Ustad on Walton (someone highly recommended him on Pakwheels) advised me to open my XLI 2014 (53K driven) head for values repair because car was taking long self, jerking and sometime simply halt. Luckily I have little how know of cars and suspected that its a faulty fuel pump and decided to take second opinion. The other guy simply changed fuel pump assembly & Voilaaa.
I agree never get your engine opened unless you are completely sure.

There must be a govt policy for eligibility and certification for a person to be an automotive mechanic, electrician, denter and everything related. And not just for automotives but all other jobs such as plumbing etc.

Dear I hardly think any of our Govts. have ever been interested in any such policies.

Their priorities, policies, etc. are different and revolve around other factors, and they are least interested in setting qualification criteria for technicians, mechanics, electricians, plumbers, etc. to operate their shops and serve general public.

YES. If i can recall a similar incident, when someone asked me what is coolant in the car? and has it to be changed?

Couple of days ago, I was flushing different lubes, coolant of my car, when one of my friends asked me:

" Does transmission fluid has to be changed? What is Brakes fluid? and what's its purpose? "

" Does Honda City with Manual Transmission has transmission fluid in it? "

Then I guided him accordingly.

To me, it is not funny, and I am not making fun of my friend.

I think, most of the people are least interested in the technicalities of the automobiles involved. They think, if / when some problem will arise, they will visit some mechanic and have the work done.

I think, the biggest Dilemma is; people are least interested, and do not even bother to read the owners / users manuals.

If people start reading them, then I am quite hopeful that most of the issues will nor arise, especially the ones leading to the sudden / instant demises of cars.

Its the classic complacent short cut mentality of almost all people in Pakistan.

E.g.
Proper job n parts cost pkr 100k (bohot mehenga hai bhai)

Useless with scrap parts done by idiot costs 15k (haan ye baat howi naa)

Rinse and repeat and you have collections upon collections of moronic examples, forget cars, Pakistan still doesnt have elecric plug standardization code, or wiring grouding or even basic plumbing codes,

How can you enforce codes you dont have? And even if you had codes, how will you enforce them when their is no audit, and how will you audit if entire country runs on bribes.

sir many issues can present similar symptoms in cars...you can be sure only after doing the related tests to be sure, and making a diagnosis without prior testing is a guess game based on experience ...

similarly in medicine practice, many disease can present similar symptoms, however our ustaads give us treatment for a wide spectrum of ailments without doing required tests n effecting sensitivity for other issues...

so only the roadside ustaads r not to be blamed, it runs in every profession....try calling a civil engineer and ask for a drainage leak in ur house sewerage system

Yes, it runs in all professions and sections of society however since this thread (as the title suggests) was initiated specifically for incidents/stories around mechanic-ustaads' tricks/jugaars/lame-jobs (with objective of learning from bad experiences) so that's why mechanic ustaads are being highlighted here.

Salam o Alikum brothers, no doubt Ustaads are guilty, ignorant and cheaters but I am also not willing to educate myself in some basic everyday utilities of life, eg. to change a switch, leaking faucet, drainage block, engine oil change at least for motorbike etc. Kindly correct me if I am thinking wrongly.
