Honda 2.2 Diesel or Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 Petrol w.r.t Mileage and fuel efficiency

I have these two cars as an options

1: Honda Accord 2.2i CTDi Sport Diesel Saloon 2005

2: Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 Elegance Saloon 2005

My main concern is FUEL EFFICENCY, normal conception is that a liter of diesel gives you more mileage than petrol so is Honda Accord 2.2 Diesel fuel mileage cost is going to be same as 1.6 petrol?

PS: Both of these cars cost me almost same, If fuel consumption in terms of milage is same or near to same, I definitely am going for honda

If I were you, then I would have gone for Honda Accord because I prefer Diesel cars over Petrol ones. Rest wait for more experts opinion. But I think here in Pakistan, less people know about Honda Sports Diesel CTDi.

I'd go for the Honda ..2.2 when bought out was the cleanest Diesel engine you could buy..lots of power.. Good motorway car..and it can carry 5 adults..in comfort ..

deisel as its pick/power/consumption is way better than petrol if driven with care....

As far as I know, Honda were never into diesel...........

Go for Accord
I personally drive both cars accord fuel conception is much better then Lancer

7th gen Accord over a non-EVO Lancer: YES
2.2 Common-rail injection with Aluminium block over a 1.6 petrol: YES

Fuel efficiency should be pretty much the same. Even if it were a bit less for Accord, you'd be driving a better and more powerful car.

Do consider your insurance and road tax though.

Dear members,Thanks a lot your valuable suggestions.I am only concerned with consumption, the price i have to pay per mile so in this context, which is going to be a saving car for me? 1.6 petrol or giant 2.2 diesel.PS: diesel and petrol price are almost same here.

You will get better milage out of a diesel car... though the cost of maintenance might also be a factor.
