Comparing a 1999 BMW 3 Series with a 2005 Honda Accord is not fair
I say if you compare a 1999 BMW 3 Series with a 1999 Honda Accord, would make a fair comparison.
OR
A 2005 BMW 3 Series with a 2005 Honda Accord would be a fair comparison.
I think in both cases the cars fall in somewhat a similar category and it would marely be a personal preference to choose between.
I would choose Honda Accord in 1999 and in 2005 or in 2007 as well. If it was a Honda Accord of 1989 or 1983 then orcourse a BMW 3 Series would be preferred.

My father owned 3 different models of Honda Accords at different times of life, a 1983 with full options, a 1984 with full options and then a 1989 with standard 2.0L with flipout lights all automatic transmissions.
I love the way they used to make the steerings, lighter in slow speed and gets harder in high speeds automatically even in the 1983 models and 1989 flipout lights was amazing.
I still remember when I first touched 215km/hrs mark on speedometer in it back in 1991.
