Honda Airwave review for you

This review is for the visitors considering or wondering about Honda Air Wave which is now available as an option to us as a Japanese import car. A copy of this is also on my Facebook group "fraudulent car industry of Pakistan". The background information on this vehicle that I referred to before considering to buy this car is from Honda Airwave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .*

Honda Air Wave is a station wagon / family car with 5-seater capacity based on the Honda City / Fit concept. The plus points of this car vs the regular Corolla Gli, Honda City (automatic transmission) locally assembled in Pakistan are:

Japanese quality (yeah I know, quality is my biggest concern with Pakistani assembled cars).
City's 1500 cc i-VTEC engine (the one that came in the Steermatic which is no longer available in Pakistan).
Two CVT choices - 5 speed in the G trim while 7 speed in the L trim. The later is a lot more fun to drive and imho its the one to get.
60/40 split rear seat sink down gives you lots of storage room / cargo area.
You can also get skyroof option in the car (its like having a large sunroof running from the front to the rear passenger seats - have a look at its pictures).
The fuel economy is great - it does anything between 12.5 to 18 km/l . (I will report more details later if anyone is interested).

The negative points include:

Availability of spares (I am not talking about the filters etc but the front lights and the like. However these days you can get stuff very fast from outside the country when required).
Price - the market price at the moment is around 14 lac (simple grade), 16 lac (L grade) and 18 lac (L with skyroof and sports kit). So basically the price ranges between 14 to 18.

Consider buying this car if:

You prefer car quality.
You can take a bit of risk and dont care about spare parts as your number 1 option when buying a car (go for a local import if you do).
You love Honda and would like to consider a station wagon.

Another reason that Fielder or Pro box will be preferred over Air wave(sadly)would only be its CVT transmission.Unfortunately mostly here while planning to purchase even a 9M Rupee car ask for only one thing "Kya is mey CNG lag sakti hai?"

exactly!! but the people too have no other choice. not everyone can afford petrol

I am contemplating getting rid my 2011 City (Manual) and buying either an Airwave or an Automatic GLI. I do have couple of questions. a) I love Panoramic Roof concept. But is it practical. I live in Islamabad and we do get heavy hailstorm once in a while. Would the glass be strong enough to sustain the impact. Also, is there an option to cover the glass roof from inside. Else, it is likely to get pretty hot during summer months. b) the other question is about it's resale. I've seen classified ads in Pakwheels for this car originally posted more than a month ago and recently re-posted. Meaning car is not selling.

aap airwave auto bhi le sakte hein without cvt aur budget increase karein tu honda stream best hai us mein same civic ka engine aur gearbox hai.

I checked out this car today at a local showroom (https://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/2006-honda-airwave-for-sale-in-rawalpindi-281122). Seemed nice but over priced (asking 19 lacs). Karachi may offer more choices and better price.

The visit at least answered one of my queries. There is a cover inside which can block sun rays.

Airwave is an awesome looking vehicle. Now, advise me you guys that is it a wise thing to sell a 2007 model honda civic vti oriel for this car( the loaded version)? i mean how is the drive and all coz you all know that civic's drive is very good and also looks too in addition to i think i should check the car out myself in order to know it in detail.

sunroof concept was developed for US/EU markets where the weather is pleasant and a little sunlight feels good and adds to tanning. It is not meant for countries like pakistan where you feel like you're are being slowly baked in an oven.

While I do like japanese cars for their options and quality but man, its a (ab)used car at the price of a new one or even higher.

Also, most people rather stretch their expenditure to afford a big car. So being able to use it on CNG and cheap availability of mechanics and spares is normally a big issue (unless you are quite rich).

I would prefer toyota fielder over airwave any day! IMO its because fielder has got a better shape( looks more stable/sporty, proper width and length, proportionate). spare parts can be easily purchased(local corolla body parts can be fitted)Nice interior and awesome resale value!
