Honda CD 70 / 1984

Hellow Friends,

First of all, I am new to this forum, I like this site, it's interesting to find out the prices and deals of the cars and bikes. Now my part of problem is I bought a Honda CD 70 1984 model which is infact 9 years before I was born.... ! I means I am 17 and this bike is 24.. LOL

Anyways, now coming to the point, we bought it, spent some money on it and finaly we got something good, I visited a machanic and he told me that there was some problem in the magent (on the left side) and I said ok REMAKE it, he said remaking would get a good pickup, low petrol consumption.. AS you know petrol is EXPENSIVE :D..

Anyways, I got the work done but now I have a new problem, I visited almost 5 machanics but no one is able to find the exact thing. The problem is that lets suppose on the second gear, when I cross the speed of 30 KM/H , I get a tak tak tak sound from the left side of bike (LEFT , infact this is what it sounds like). And when I put the 3rd gear, the voice disapears and when on the third gear I cross 40 KM/H, the TAK TAK TAk sound starts again, and if I pur the 4th gear, the tak tak tak sound starts on 50 KM/H and never stops again as no more gears

Some of machanics told me that it's because my bike pickup is good and it's asking new gear when it make that tak tak tak voice, but my question is :

4th kai baad konsa gear lagao or kaha sai lagao ???

Infact, and some machanics say, it's not a big deal, just avoid the voice and drive on the maximum you could etc etc ....

As I see there are specialists and professionals on this website, I wanted to share this story with you, please help me out with something easily possible. Infact I think if I replace my silencer ?? I mean I have original new model CD silenser, what if I put that PHAT PHAT PHAT silencer that many young and some times old people put, but i think it's illegal, and if police catch I will get a chalan but I think this is the only way to now hear that tak tak tak as silencer voice will be more lounder.

Please help me out, thanks ask me any details you want.

Salam Faisal Bhai. According to your description the very 1st thing and most likely cause for the sound you are hearing is because of the Magnet Rotor being loose on the crank shaft. The Magnet Rotor is locked on to the shaft via a small Cotter Pin which is made of aluminium hence is brittle and easily damaged, it is even more prone to damage if the Magnet rotor is disassembled and installed frequently or during assembly it is forced on to the shaft. The Cotter pin is very cheap to replace, at the same time it is recommended to replace it soon enough otherwise crank shaft or/and magnet rotor damage could occur causing it to be a very expensive repair. Therefore I would advice you to go to a reputable mechanic in your area and ask him to replace the cotter pin in the Magnet Rotor as soon as possible.

Also worth checking is the governor assembly inside the Magnet Rotor, there are 2 springs in there that help in advancing the ignition timing when needed, if they come out of their position, they can cause the noise that you hear as well, therefore ask the mechanic to check them too. However, I cannot stress enough how damageable and expensive the outcome of this noise can be if it is ignored and not taken care of within time, nor can I recommend you to ride the bike much until and unless the noise is taken care of.

Here is a picture of how the Magnet Rotor looks like on your bike, kindly note the Nut in the center that holds the Magnet in its place, behind it is the cotter pin, while the Governor assembly with 2 arms and 2 springs rest on the inside of the Magnet Rotor.

I agreed @ yamaha135. & wana recomend u one more thing that its better to get it checked from the workshop wich deal in repairing of Magnets as the problems seems most likely to be in governor or Poles of magnet.

@OP another problem is that these models were Point Models
and today it really is difficult to find a qualified mechanic who can get the timing right for you
btw whats your location?
