Hey guys! North Nazimabad Karachi has another Honda 125 to add to its arsenal since I picked up a zero meter 125 deluxe this week. Being an informed consumer, I thought it would be wholesome to share my experiences, and learn something from this thread.
I drove a 2009 Suzuki gs 150, which maxed out at 115km/hr on Shairah Faisal, for a year and a half before purchasing the 125.
Why Euro 2? Euro 2 refers to the acceptable exhaust emissions of a new motorcycle sold in the E.U as of July, 2002. Australia began to implement Euro 3 as of 2006. This means better fuel efficiency.
I noticed a valve protruding from the top of the engine, under the petrol tank, close to the chassis, and was wondering if anyone has the knowledge to explain its significance. My 5 Star Atlas Honda dealer briefly explained that the valve is the "fifth gear". Once the bike hits 100km/h the valve opens up to allow for maximum speed. He called it Honda's "f.i.r" technology that is also implemented in their cars. There is nothing in the owner's manual about it.
Moving on. Before purchasing the 125, I spoke with a few mechanics i.e Malikons, about customization. The consensus was that a zero meter bike should not be altered from factory settings. I at least wanted to install an electric ignition to my new bike, but the mechanic explained that the local 125 engines don't support self start; and the engine would have to be opened and altered to accommodate an electric self start. Then I asked about increasing the bore and piston size. I have read that if you drill the bore 2mm larger and use a Honda 550 piston that the 125 will become supercharged to nearly 150cc. The mechanic explained that there is a danger of causing serious damage to the engine, busting into a fuel main, or at least losing fuel efficiency. The Honda cg 125 has a fairly light body so an engine upgrade would cause the bike to lose torque and increase vibration. I also explored the option of fitting the new 125 with cbr 250 fairings for a more street wise look, but was soon convinced otherwise by the 35k+ price. All in all, factory fitted accessories is the expert choice.
As my newborn bike begins to crawl, then walk, then offensively yet responsibly cause anxious tension to the bustling streets of Karachi, I will post pics and continue to share my experience.
