Honda City 2001 OR 2002 OR Toyota Indus 2000

Salams all,

As everyone use to when going for a car purchase, I’m also CONFUSED which car should I go for. Hope it would be a good place to let me take a positive decision.

At current, I’m having an offer of the following cars, all in good condition
1) Honda City 2001 – 650,000/-
2) Honda City 2002 – 670,000/-
3) Toyota Corolla Indus 2000 – 730,000/-

What you guys suggest, which car should I go for? Of course, the aforementioned amount is the demand by the seller, while I’m planning for the negotiation. Kindly assist in purchasing the best among the available ones?

Secondly, I’ve heard Honda/Toyota provides services to check the complete car (Engine, Suspension etc.) for nominal cost. Do you suggest to diagnose the car from them before a purchase or should I only go with my Mechanic to diagnose it.

If the Corolla is 1.6 Gli then without having any second thought go for it,its better by all means,if its not then you can easily find one in this budget,as far as getting the car thoroughly examined by Toyota 3S i won't recommend you as those people are there to do nothing but to fleas you,if a mechanic is sitting roadside he is a mechanic and the same person wears a dealership tagged jacket then he becomes an authority.Its better to search for a good expert being mechanic is not necessary and seek his advise.

Go for the Corolla Indus. You'll love it! And the price is decent only if it's a 1.6GLi, cause a 1.3GL should sell for 700k or so.

If the car is in good condition and you want your self to refrain within 600k then go for it City 2000~2003 is also very good car,but i would have preferred Corolla 1.6 Gli in this budget over every thing.

I'd suggest a City 2001-03. An EXIS version will be with powered windows and powered mirrors. If you can get an Auto, it'll make your life a lot easier, with pleasure.

Corolla +ve
1- Better resale
2- Everyone is a corolla mechanic
3- If its a 1.6GLi, it'll be very fast.

City +ve
1- Smoother drive
2- Lesser body roll.
3- Since it will be a 1.3, more economical than the 1.6 GLi.

The best car for you is a 7th gen Honda Civic, 2001 EXI, for around 650K, 100K driven.

Secondly, a 4th generation Honda City consider Auto only if its on Petrol, will cost you 650K for 2003/04 Model, else buy a manual transmission.

7th Generation Corolla is a seriously outdated and overpriced car, there is nothing considerable in it except cheap parts and some people have related their old memories with it.

At current, I'm being offered 600k for City 2001, mileage 55k km, slightly faded color from the borders, the owner says its because of the sunlight and is the property of original color. He will do the complete processing of name transferring plus its a one owner car. Have checked the originality of engine but would let it be checked with couple of my mechanic.

What other factors that should be checked other than Suspension and Engine?

Should I go for it?

PS: Its really tough to invest such amount :p, therefore seeking for your advice

Having kept both City 2001 and Indus Corolla (1.3 XE) ... I can say by far the city is heaps better.

Infact the city will be better than the 1.6GLi ... power isnt everything. The city is jsut more comfortable and just a better car to drive!

I kept hte indus only a couple of months ... City still with me! Love it !

brother right now i have both the cars you mentioned ... my suggestion would be city exis ... its economical grippy and drive is a bit softer then corolla ... where as 1.6 if manuall tranny is fast and tough

You can find a Civic 2000 Vti Oriel for around 650 or around that figure do keep that car in mind, its SUPERB will give you excellent comfort and ride

haven't kept a rolla.But own a city.so i can only comment on it.IMO city is much better design,grippy,better looks (compared to rolla),comfortable,power pack.banda executive executive feel karta hai iss mai beith kar.Donno y but rolla doesn't give that feeling.

Cons:

Engine/body parts are relatively difficult(compared to rolla) to find,hence expensive.Reason being that this model came only for 3 yrs,whereas rolla is been around for ages..:).

Things to check:
Check for rust on the underside of rear wheels and in boot area.Also as this model has less ground clearance so do check the floor and 'gardari' from below for signs of any damage.If she is genuinely driven 55k then u shouldn't worry about the engine condition as this engine is gud for at least 500k km more.IF driven carefully.provided owner timely changed oil.
And if decide to go for rolla then do tell the details of city as i'm interested to buy another one for family..
