As I understand, the main problem to begin with was heating up. With this much corrosion in the coolant passages, it is imperative to check the water pump - could well be that its fins are highly corroded, hindering its ability to drive the coolant.
The other thing is - why does everything look so wet, did he drain the coolant and oil before pulling the head?
It also seems that one of the exhaust ports is much darker than the other three and it seems that the plugs on that cylinder have much darker deposits on them compared to the orangish MMT type deposits on the other three cylinders' plugs. In my K24 one of the exhaust ports was much darker than all the others and it turned out to be a bad valve stem seal, causing oil loss.
