Honda City 2010 ~ 2011 Pick & Knocking Issue

1. as far as i know, you need to 'train' the ecu, make it learn - esp in the lower rpm range.

you can do that by running the car in 5th gear 70kmph speed, without AC, mild throttle. and make it go upto 3k rpm without changing gears. accelerate slowly. initially it might knock but then it'll learn to retard the timing sufficiently. do this without AC 2-3 times so that ECU can learn, with AC it probably wont make any baseline readings.

1. Pakistan is a country with very hot weather, using colder spark plugs will definitely help prevent the pinging and knocking to some extent.

2. Stay miles away from any Attock / Caltex / Total fuel pumps. In my experience, company run PSO stations and Shell pumps are best.

Yes, there is just one issue with new City its 2nd gear require some momentum
In mehran you can apply 2nd gear on zero speed but its almost not possible in City.

Just change your driving habits... apply 2nd gear a bit late ....
I personally checked 3rd gear is MashAllah very good
on Motor way salt ranges I accelerate my city from 40 to 90 with out any problem.

AC is good no problem with it

been driving a city 2010...i have to admit that it has disappointed me on almost all fronts.

The biggest issue is the pathetic suspension. The engine is good only at high revs but sucks at low revs. You have to change ur driving style to a "always on the edge" one to avoid knocking in low gears...the seats are a definite pain in th a$$ on long routes...the cabin in noisy and lacks a sense of strength and confort...it does not have an insulation sheet installed on the inner side of the engine bay which allows free transfer of heat and noise...

The after sales service of honda is SO SO BAD. They can't diagnose a thing and even try to put used parts in a friends car.

Sirf honda k outwardly shashkay hain aur kuch nahi....but it looks good!

On the other hand I feel that Toyota is a much better car in all aspects except that it has become a sign of "paindu" car and honda has become a car for the "yo-bachaz"

My bro owns 2010 City and we were so fed up with the exact issue u had xplained in ur poster. We went to Honda Breeze Multan and their Workshop incharge briefed us about this issue and he was the first guy at any dealership I found honest and coperative.

According to him new City's ECU is programmed to run on High Octane fuel instead of premier plus we have here at most of the pumps. And he gave us two options to fix this problem. One was to use 50/50 ratio of High octane and premiere plus and Second was to reprogram the MAP sensor reading required for premiere plus petrol. We went for this and reprogrammed the ECU for new MAP reading.

Believe me now we notice the change in cars pick up in 1-2-3 gears in between the range of 1000-2000 rpms. No power lag or anything, no knocking with or w/o AC.

I would recommend u to do the same. It will cost u Rs 1000 and time require for it is less than 5 minutes.

sry fr being off topic but i doubt it tht u r not owner of new city...its a very gud car n its seats r also comfortable..if u r owner of new city n still u have problem then i think there is some problem wid ur city ....its a nice car n much better option than xli..i m also a lover n owner of toyota but i cant close my eyes in fanboyism....

now here is a guy who knows what he is talking about

map sensor is what tells the engine the amount of load that the engine is trying to drive, in turn it is one of the many inputs that determine the ignition timing which is more advanced for higher octane fuels but causes knocking on lower octane fuel. reprogramming it would be one way of correcting the issue...but make sure you go to a guy who knows what he is doing. Its a tricky job altering ecu's base maps.

off topic but only in pakistan a company can sell new and old model of a same car at a single time suzuki alto is a newer model of mehran, and even alto is outdated cultus is the old swift and both swift and cultus r on sale and even the swift is a 2003 design, same was the story with potohar and jimny,now potohar is discontinued, both suzuki and toyota use old model engines with new shape cars,

New model Honda City since July 2009. So this is third summer season. 25000 Km done. Haven't noticed any of the problems mentioned except bumpy drive. Getting 11-13 Km/L in city (Lahore, rush hour) and 15-18 Km/L on motorway and highways. Everything stock with Honda recommended oil.

Verdict: Something wrong with your piece unfortunately. Since it's still under warranty, get it fixed ASAP.

Even I have a slight issue of knocking in my gli 2010 between 3000 and 4000 rpms at 3rd, 4th n 5th gears. sometimes in 2nd also if the rpm crosses 3000

Brother Im not sure about the Corolla ECU. But I think its programmed for lower octane fuel. So knocking in ur car may be coz of the bad quality of petrol. Try putting some high octane in its tank and check for any difference.

brother to my advice use high octane as you have used before and do grounding. i did grounding on my city 2010 and even without high octane i dnt feel any knocking now try it and hopefully you will like my advice

Someone mentioned where a high-octane-selling-fuel-station in Faisalabad is; it's the PSO station at canal road. Opposite Saeed Colony, I guess.
