it would nicely clean it out and do it gently too, the person who had gasket failure on his engine after the flush had a severely corroded system which was "running on rust"

running on rust as plug and patch is the worst way as it will let go at the worst point of time.

citric acid is quite mild and wont eat into metal - it only removes scale and foreign deposits from cooling systems.

Bhai,in case of hybrid oat coolants,same strict flushing of system is required ?(if we have been using some other sasta Wala coolant before switching to hybrid oat),as you recommend flushing in case of caltex coolant,as it would form a gel in case of improper flushing.
In short recommend some good coolant which can bear some mixing whether it comes pre diluted or concentrated.

Yes flushing is required in that case too, sasta coolants are old inorganic silicate type and will cause severe problems when mixed with oat coolants

Never mix those two.

Today we did filled the cooling system with havoline coolant.
To my utter dismay, it took only 3.5L of coolant (we mixed 2L of distilled water and coolant each). The manual says it takes 5.15L of coolant if complete flush is done. It suggests that we couldn't remove all the water from system before doing coolant addition job. We did these steps to ensure all water is out
1. Removed thermostat and left the hose open
2. Removed the drain bolt of radiator
3. Pushed any remaining water out by pressuring air into radiator. Here we saw additional about 200ml of water getting out
Then mixed the coolant and water and added it. We could only add 3.5L coolant back into system.
If we take manual as correct, then it means that we could only add 1.75L coolant against 3.4L of water meaning that the ratio of coolant to water is 33%/67%.
What should we do know?

This is why I always tell to fill concentrate in system as it can mix with the trapped water inside which is left after flush and you dont end up with this silly problem.

You are supposed to “backflush” the engine towards radiator which is done by pushing water into heater hose pipes on engine side and then heater side as radiator drain doesnt remove water from lower part of block or the heater core/radiator in dashboard. If you used citric acid to clean the system a 5 minute flush with running water at low pressure is done to remove all removed debris and acidic water.

After flushing I personally drain and fill RO water twice and drain system to minimise tap water content of flushing.

Anyway

To raise coolant concentration to 50% from 33% in a 5.1 litre system you need to drain 1.3 liters of the current mix and add concentrated coolant.

Keep the drained coolant in clean container to adjust to 50% and reuse later as ready to use topup in future.

We did the citric acid job and flushed the system for more than ten mins.

Sir we did the back flushing of engine by introducing water from lower part of engine.
A final flush was done with distilled water as well.
Should I remove 1.3L tomorrow or let it work for a few days and then remove 1.3L and add additional coolant?

Let engine run for about half hour total, that way all coolant and water is mixed.

Drain out when cool (collect all this in clean pan for reuse)

Close drain and add 1.3 litres neat coolant (concentrate) - if you accidently removed more than 1.3 litres just reuse the drained coolant to top up. (Dont add plain water otherwise you will upset the mixture ratio)

After running half hour your coolant will be completely mixed at perfect 50% ratio.

Next time when you fill any car with coolant after flushing, dont premix coolant, add concentrate to car and then top off with water as there will always be trapped water in engine or heater. You will get your target 50% very easily. (This is also why I despise ready mix 50% coolant sold at shops, I only buy concentrate, the ready mix they sell is only for topping up or to use in coolant exchanging machine, never for initial fill after flush.

Btw, did you see junk or rusty water drain out when you acid flushed system?

We didn't see a lot of junk. Just brownish water came out with no garbage/junk. Actually, when we first drained the engine 2 weeks ago, at that time a lot of junk came out a long with older coolant. Similarly, we didn't observe rust at openings of hoses (as you see in pics uploaded by different people over the forum).

Can we clean Catalytic converter with Citric Acid or it will damage Catalytic converter?
