The wheel icon is the power steering warning light, and it's an indication that there is a fault with the power steering system, if it stays ON or reappears, when car is ON.
Secondly, as you have said that you replaced the battery, it might be possible that the gauge / sensor, which measures remaining range, isn't working correctly.
I would suggest that you completely fill the fuel tank, and take your ride back home. Remove -ve terminal of the battery (the one with comparatively less wires) for at least 30 minutes, to allow ECU to reset, and then connect again.
Hopefully, both issues will get resolved and range will be reset. However, regarding power steering malfunction light, i would sincerely suggest to visit some reputed garage and have your vehicle scanned for any / all fault codes. Take remedial action accordingly.
