Honda City 2016 - 40,000 KM Periodic Maintenance

Hello Everyone,

My Car Odometer showing 37,000 KM and 40,000 KM said to be major inspection and Honda 3S dealers charge almost 20K~30K for replacement of few parts like Brakes, Fuel Filter, Gear Oil including general replacement of Oil.

Can anyone please suggest his opinion for given.

1. Car drove on Shell Petrol (Monthly once full tank VPower - hioctance) does this case require fuel filter change? no complaint with fuel average or other thing.
2. Gear Oil Replacement is recommended by 3S but such replacement not mentioned in user maintenance document.
3. Brake Fluids replacement are recommended by 3S dealers but replacement is not mentioned in user manual.
4. Brake Pads are recommended by 3S, although condition if brake pads not fine so this is logical to change.

My car has good fuel average and no complaint do i have to consider fuel filter replacement any how?

At 40k the gear oil dose not need replacement till 60 - 70 k
get the throttle body serviced oil and oil filter replaced and if brakes need replacement get them done otherwise its not required.
these are the things i got done for my civic at 47k so 40k is nothing.

For your safety and car as well it is advisable to follow periodic maintenance plan. yes Honda 3S is quite expensive but if you follow them , warranty of car will remain intact. Furthermore, proactive approach always pays in good then reactive one.

Whats mean Throttle body service? could you please explain

they clean the throttle body from all the carbon deposits that accumulate over time

You mean washing a carburetor ( removing from inlet manifold ) and just wash with cleaning solvent eg petrol .i don't think that they dismantling a complete carburetor.

EFI engines don't have carburetors anymore the fuel and air mixture is done by the throttle body and they just remove the throttle body and clean it with petrol and carburetor cleaner sprays it hardly takes 30 mins for the whole process.

Except having the gear oil changed (if it's Prosmatec), I don't see any more maintenance that you need to do, if you don't have any problem. Don't mess without any reason.

a mass air flow sensor (MAF) or a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) determines how much air is entering the throttle body and sends the information to the ECU. The ECU uses the information to decide how much fuel to inject into the cylinders to keep the mixture stoichiometric. The computer continually uses the TPS to check the throttle’s position and the MAF or MAP sensor to check how much air is flowing through the intake in order to adjust the pulse sent to the injectors, ensuring that the appropriate amount of fuel gets injected into the incoming air. In addition, the ECU uses the o2 sensors to figure out how much oxygen is in the exhaust. The oxygen content in the exhaust provides an indication of how well the fuel is burning. Between the MAF sensors and the 02 sensor, the computer fine-tunes the pulse that it sends to the injectors.

Indeed they have shared estimate of 29,000 PKR with multiple parts replacement and so on..

Parts agreed to change on 40,000 KMs.

1. Air Filter = Cost 1840 PKR
2. Battery Water = Cost 100 PKR
3. Front Brake Pad replacement = 9,400 PKR
4. Front Disk Turning = 1530 PKR
5. Brake Service Charges = 1700 PKR
6. Brake Fluid replacement = 940 PKR
7. 40K periodic maintenance charges = 4,600 PKR

Parts / Service not agreed

1. Idle Learning = 2,640 PKR (They have already performed same on 30446 KM maintenance)
2. Gear Oil fluid= 5,500 PKR (User Manual not recommending to change on 40K)
3. Fuel Filter = They already said is in good condition no need to change this time.

Total = 8140

Today I visited I-10 Honda center for taking estimates for my prosmatic Honda city 2016.following cost sheet provided me which took almost 65k PKR and 4-5 hours time. Can any one look into and give me suggestions how can I reduce cost.

Brother my advice to keep away fro these dealerships. If you can get an estimate from outside. There is a guy who has an workshop in auto market I-10 islamabad with the name of Taimure Bhai honda dealer. He is an ex Honda service technician and a reasonable guy.
May be he can advise you better on this

My 2015 M/T City has done 80k now. I also got this estimate sheet from Honda I-9 Islamabad, after which i compared it to the maintenance instructions given in the car's User Manual (UM). Here is what I have deducted:

1. Wheel Balancing / Wheel Alignment:
   First and foremost, don't get this done from Honda, its a fairly standard procedure and doesn't require Honda expertise. 5k for this activity is ridiculous, you can easily get this done for 1k max from any wheel alignment workshop.

2. Air Filter:
   UM states that it should be changed after every 30k. But, since our environment is quite dusty, i get it done every 10k. So if you got it replaced last time you went for oil change, you shouldn't replace it this time.

3. Oil Filter:
   To be replaced after every 10k, so again if you got it replaced last time then no need to change it this time.

4. Transmission Fluid:
   UM instructs to replace it every 60k. So, don't get it done after only 40k.

5. Fuel Filter:
   UM states that it should be replaced every 80k but its mentioned that if you have reason to believe that your fuel is contaminated, then you should replace it every 40k. So, if you trust your pump and/or use only Hi-Octane, then you can skip it at 40k. I personally got it done at 40k because i don't go to selective good pumps and i don't trust fuel quality in this country.

6. Front Disc Pads:
   UM states that you should replace them when they start giving a metallic screeching sound, which is unlikely to happen at 40k. I got mine changed at 70k, and not because of the sound but rather because I was prepping the car to go to Khunjerab Pass.

7. A/C Filter:
   Get it changed before the summer season.

8. Brake Oil:
   UM states to change it every 3 years, regardless of mileage.

9. Coolant:
   UM states to replace it every 200k.

10. Spark Plugs:
    UM states to replace them every 100k.

most of these services are not essentially required at 40k kms. . .wheel balancing alignment can be done from local market at just 10% cost. . .air filter stays 30k kms. . .brake disc n plate etc are not required to replace at 40k kms. . .battery water etc u can refill urself. . .tranmission fluid is too erly to change. . .just run away from i-10 !!
