How can I know which coolant is in my car? I bought this car a year ago so not sure which coolant previous owner used. There is no problem whatsoever in the car. The coolant in plastic reservoir bottle is at minimum level so I want to add coolant to it up til to maximum level. So wanted to make sure that the coolant I am adding is same to the existing one. The color of coolant is green. Also from the last year coolant level is same when I bought this car last year. Is it okay if the level remains at minimum level. Ofcourse when the engine is hot coolant level expand and go up in reservoir bottle. The car in question is Honda city 2012 model.
Use this Coolant
Is this safe to add to existing coolant?
Dear, I think there is no need to add extra coolant if it level is consistent and not below the minimum level. I bought a zero-meter Honda City in 2017, since day one its coolant is at the minimum level, and in the start, I added the coolant from Honda Dealership to the maximum level twice but in a week or so it reduces to the minimum level but never decreases further.
Yes. Safe to add. Keep the Coolant level in between the Min and Max levels. And keep the coolant reservoir cap tightly closed.
Yes it's on minimum level from last year when I bought this car and staying there till date. I think then I should leave it there but keep an eye Incase if it decrease then will add only
Got it, thank you. By the way you have evaluate based on the color of coolant I have? Or this aisin coolant is compatible with all green color coolants?
If car engine is cold the coolant level will be at min and when engine is heated up / pressurised the level will rise a little bit so no need to add anything.
I have added guard distilled water and it costs less than 100rs for 1.5L bottle , Also you can use this distilled water to add to your car battery if the level falls below.
Bought my honda in June last year, Coolant was at minimum thrshold since day one, hasnt reduced since. I think its by design. They do the bare-minimum
If you don't know exactly what coolant is in your car, dont risk mixing different types of coolant (colour isn't a guaranteed indicator).
Mixing will cause major issues, gelling I believe.
Better to flush and add totally new coolant.
Yes it's at minimum level when the engine is cold. But when the engine is hot it rises upto to between minimum and maximum.
Keeping in mind the replies from different city owners I am guessing it by default so I leaving it as it is. But will keep an eye Incase it decrease then will add only
Yup. It seems to be by default too now so I will leave it as it is
