Honda City IDSi swapped to L15A2 bad mileage? Any solutions

Hi Everyone,

I had a weak engine, reducing oil so went to an Swap, previously had L13 this time opted for L15A2 idsi after reading the reviews.

Till now i have driven about 3000 km, the drive is smooth like anything but the only issue is BAD FUEL AVERAGE, hardly getting 10 km/ liter even on motorway with rpm not exceeding 3k.

Electrician checked the wiring which had a problem and was fixed and tapped all over.

I am using iridium spark plugs, TB serviced, oxygen sensor changed but no success. The last to check is MAP sensor, ive tested with OBD scanners all readings look fine, but mile is just not acceptable.

If nothing works for me i will try to change the engine back to L13 but that would be my very last option.

Any help would be appreciated.

What oil grade are u using? Air filter clean? What tire pressures are you running?

Try using 5w30 rated oil in semi-synthetic and if all is well shift to a fully synthetic oil. It made a difference in my L13A engine and I may opt for fully synthetic later.

As for tyre pressure do check the driver side pillar and you will find the company recommended psi for both front and rear tyres.

Did you change the computer and wiring with the engine swap?

I think the L13A and L15A computers are different and wiring is not compatible. Whereas L13A and L12A can be used on the same wiring.

True i am planning to shift to 5w30 anyways on next oil change.

Well the ECM is compatible with both as per my research as both uses IDSI technology the only thing is EGR stays disconnected.

I think it is not the case and someone else can clarify this. I know they are both idsi technology but it is possible this is the reason of low fuel economy.

I do have a friend using L15A2 with old Ecm getting 14+ in city driving

Replaced the injectors and map sensor, hope things turn in my favor..

Last year I swapped L13a into 2008 Honda City originally with L12a.

The ECU wasn't changed. I drove it under 1000 kms before handing it back to my uncle.

The car managed 13/14 kmpl.

Egr was removed and covered with a cover.

Yes, I did the same in my 2004 Honda City this year and the ECU was not changed as well.

I am curious if you used fully synthetic oil after first 1000kms or would suggest that I should do so. I am currently using 5w30 semi-synthetic oil.

Well EGR removed, let me check the mileage, will be shifting to 10w30 or 5w30 as there is no oil reduction at all.

Trying to adjust the rpm to 800 currently its 900

Used 10w40 or 50 Shell Yellow can for first 500 - 800 kms test run. It got delayed because of the covid lock down. The fuel average 13/14kmpl was on Shell Yellow box.

Later after 800 kms I put in 5W30 Shell since Caltex shops were closed. And returned the car didn't check fuel average on Shell 5W30

Bro i am using L15a Steermatic, but i am getting 10 Km per liter, i changed the o2 Sensor, and injectors too before car was running rich but its fine now but maximum i am getting 10 with light foot and if i acclerate more it drops to 8 Km per liter. 8 Km per liter means Full heavy Thoratel with High speeding Since its CVT and dont feel Gear Shifting so one can always enjoying pushing acclerator but avg will Drop.

My Engine is Changed but its same L15A Swap with Existing ECU.

Can you suggest what can i do more to increase the Milage.

I have put 15 liter yesterday and it gives me 129 Km till now the needle is just before the Reserve light.

using PSO 5w30 Oil

Steermatic is vtect technology right, you have 4 plugs then check the plugs first.

Currently did one swap in a friends car L13 to L15
Same ecm can be used, since its a map sensor based fueling system. So no issues of wiring or sensors, no cel at all everything is good.
Compression was 200 in each cylinder.
And we're using 5w30 oil, new plugs and L15A injectors.
But still getting 9-10kmpl local..

However we're gonna try few things and then will update in this post if the economy gets lifted.

Bro I am Facing same issue, can you help and let us know how to get even 12 13 KM from it. All Readings are fine here, All Wiring is Fine, Engine is in amazing Condition, Fuel Pump is good, Injectors Replaced, O2 Sensor Replaced. Air Filter Changed.

Please Do let us know. i am getting 8 to 10 Km per liter on AC in City.
