Honda City Oil Change

Assalam u alikum this is my first topic on pakwheels I m from Karachi basically I have switched from cultus to Honda City 2012 model which is 86000 km done so after bought a car when I check the oil situation it was almost worst so I need to change it immediately but the problem is that I didn't know that which oil was used previous owner because he sold the car and went abroad and contact nhi ho paya so then I research on pakwheels and mostly recommendations are for 5w30 for Honda city and then I went to oil change service so I ask to the person who change the oil also he said me to use the oil 10w40 zic synthetic because he said if you don't about the previous oil and u use 5w30 so may in future the engine will create a problem or maybe black smoke airse so I got confused and I have changed oil to zic synthetic 10w40 and he also said the 5w30 is for new car so after I change the oil I am sill in confused that Kia Maine Sahi oil use Kia hai k nhi because many people said me that u had to use 5w30 so many expert guide me that what should I do should I change the oil immediately or stick to 10w40 or to wait for next oil change and then change to 5w40 plz guide me thanks

If your car doesnt give any blue smoke on 5w30 and doesn't reduce the oil level, u may continue using 5w30. If car runs fine on 5w30 and no issues arise, continue using just that. No need for 10w40 unless any issue.

84,000 is practically a brand new car, i.e. if the meter hasn't been reversed. Most mechanics here don't know. On your next oil change shift to total quartz 9000 5w30. It is cheaper comparatively and easily available everywhere. After putting 5w30 keep on monitoring the oil, if the car doesn't reduce it and it has no leaks, stick to 5w30. That way you will get the most mileage out of your car and prolong engine life, shift to a thicker oil only when there is reduction/smoke, car's total mileage doesn't determine which engine oil to put in, a friend of mine is still using 5w30 in his 200,000+ driven 2001 city.

Agree with it in this particular case. ZIC 10w-40 fully synthetic would be fine, provided, the oil is 100% authentic.

Its not due to engine oil burning in the combustion chamber (it gives bluish smoke). Black smoke means car running rich in fuel. White smoke means burning of coolant (may be due to weak / leaked head gasket).

IMO, you may continue using it.

From next oil change, try Caltex / Havoline 10w-30.

If it works fine (i.e. no oil consumption / smoke from the exhaust), only then switch to 5w-30 fully synthetic, or may be even semi-synthetic from any reputed brand (Total, Shell, Kixx, Valvoline, PSO, etc.)

If you observe any problem, always switch to next grade.

10w-40 ---> 10w-30 ---> 5w-30 (if all goes well)

5w-30 ---> 10w-30 ---> 10w-40 (if / when any problem related to engine oil consumption / burning arises)

In any case, ensure oil is 100% authentic.

And what about engine flush should I flush the engine with particular chemical like liqui Moli engine flush before switch to 5w30 or can I direct shift to 5w30 from 10w40

There is no need for an engine flush, in fact no car currently on the road needs an engine flush. If the oil has been changed regularly at 5k or less intervals than you don't need an engine flush. All modern oils have excellent additives and detergent properties. My city 2001 is around 160k and have had cars with over 200k kms on their odos, all i did was change oils regulary and their engines never gave me any troubles, their engines were neat and clean from the inside with no gunk at all.
Keep it simple, your car will thank you.
