Honda Civic 1996-1998 VS Suzuki Cultus 2007-2008

Guys,

I need some expert advise from owners of both Honda Civic 6th Generation and Suzuki Cultus EFI.

I have a budget of around 7 lacs (plus minus) and these two car models are some how in my range, some amount can be plus minus for a feasible situation.

I am not really sure which one to go for right now, there is a lot of confusion. Please give me an advice keeping following key points:

• Fuel consumption: long-distance travel is a priority, I do not travel within city a lot.
• Resale: I have had a little bad experience with 2 cars whose resale was not that good and so I lost some money on them.
• Drive comfort
• Engine condition: Most probably a worrisome condition for Civic as it is almost 25 years old now.

and anything else that you may want to add. Personally, I am a little leaned towards Civic as it is a sedan, so advantage of luggage support. Also, it is better equipped technologically as compared to Cultus but the resale value plus fuel consumption worries me as I have heard that Civics are fuel guzzlers.

Fuel consumption is better in Cultus in comparison to Civic and the difference is significant.

Resale:

In terms of resale, both cars have a good resale market provided the condition of the car is really good. However, if compared, the resale of Cultus is slightly better than Civic based on the difference in the model.

Drive comfort

Drive comfort is almost similar, however, Civic being a sedan will give you a better drive comfort on long routes, and Cultus being a hatchback will be a little less comfortable in terms of drive.

Engine condition: Most probably a worrisome condition for Civic as it is almost 25 years old now.

It's not 100% true as it is quite possible that you can find Civic kept with extreme care and engine condition is almost like new and it is also quite possible that you can find a Cultus with a ruined engine. It's all about finding the right car, but yes, you're right that the possibility of finding a car with a good condition engine is high with Cultus rather than Civic.

I would suggest civic for longer routes, especially if you can find one in good condition. Otherwise buy a civic and get all the work done in it to make it more reliable. You could also consider a honda city 2002 model as well since it is also a sedan and a more recent model which will give better mileage.
Indus corolla could also be another vehicle to consider especially if you can increase your budget a bit more as it is great for longer routes.

Thanks a lot for a detailed reply. Yes, you are completely right. I have seen a few cultus's and civic's and as of now, Civics were in better condition than the cultuses, though, mostly the engines were swapped which I think should not be more of an issue.

Thanks a lot. Yes, I had included Honda City in this list too but mostly the Cities that I have found on Olx, Pakwheels in this range were from 1998-2000 models and were Carby's and I don't want to go with the carburettor engine.

However, I am still looking for those if I find a good piece, City would be a priority since it is better with the fuel average too.
