Honda Civic 2005 Temperature gauge issue

In Civic 2005 When the coolant level is low or there is no water in the radiator, the temperature gauge remains in the middle or shows normal readings, even though the engine is not receiving adequate cooling. This is very misleading and potentially dangerous, as running the engine without sufficient coolant can cause it to overheat and lead to serious engine damage. what is the solution for this to know that your car is getting heated up? please suggest anyway.

You are chasing the wrong issue. Fix the leaks first before it overheats and causes other problems. The temperature sender looses contact with coolant/water as it is situated nearly on the top of thermostat housing, when the level goes low, it provides inaccurate reading based on flange metal temperature. It will report over heat when the metal itself has overheated (too late by then for any precaution).
