Honda Civic 2008 Reborn RPM Fluctuates after Thorttle Body Service. PLEASE HELP

Recently bought a single hand Reborn at 100,000kms. Owned by an elderly gentleman

Very happy with the purchase extremely fun to drive the acceleration is just mind boggling even with a soft foot, as is the fuel consumption of around 6km/l in Karachi.

With the hopes of improving the average I had a nearby mechanic do the tuning which included EGR Valve and Throttle Body Cleaning. He used an Electric Contact cleaner which evaporates instantly after use as I had this lying with me at home. This was basically bought to clean the MAF Sensor for another car. No carb cleaner or WD40 used.

Before the car was super smooth set below 1k rpm however there is odd fluctuation in the RPM between 1 and 1.5k revs at slow speeds. Moment you engage the gear to Drive and lift the break peddle car accelerates quite dangerously from 1 to 1.5k and its even more worrisome as my wife who is a learner drives it and if it freaks me out it could cause an accident if she drives alone

Driven it around 80kms since then and have not noticed any improvement

Have I ruined my car by getting the throttle body serviced??? :(:(:(:(.

Nothing to worry about, the butterfly in throttle body is malfunctioning most probably. Visit a reliable mechanic and get it fixed.

why did you think there was a need to "clean and service" the throttle body?

The throttle has teflon bushings on which the blade axle rotates, they can go bad with cleaners - which then causes the throttle to stick and the engine computer will force a small jerk to unlock it near idle.

Try to get its idle rpm recalibrated, it can relearn itself too after about 6 or 7 drive cycles of more than 10 kms each.

Reset the ECU by removing negative battery terminal and let it sit for a few minutes until residual charge is gone. Connect the battery terminal (clean if needed, tighten properly) and start the car let it idle for 10-20mins as soon as the coolant reaches optimal temp and radiator fan kicks in you have a freshly calibrated rpm.

Do this on a cold engine.
It is usually a good idea to take the car to a honda specific mechanic because our local ustads treat everything as a mehran and carry dabba.

nothing to worry about, getting your car serviced is always a good thing to do for the vehicle : )

however, unlike Toyotas, Hondas need special calibration after throttle and sensors are unplugged. Their ECU needs to be "reset and re-learned" .

Visit a mechanic who can reset a Honda ECU, or you can watch Youtube videos how to reset Honda ECUs that will help.

no need to worry. ECU relearn will take place in about 100 more km stop & go journeys.

Salaam. Due to getting poor fuel average of 6km/l Thank you I asked him to do the TB Recalibration on his computer and its gotten back to normal now. PLEASE WHAT CAN I DO TO IMPROVE ITS FUEL ECONOMY. 6KM per Litre is just too heavy on the pocket.
