yes there is a PCV valve, look again. Its in a breather box - follow its tube from the manifold
if your crank and cam timing were not physically correct on this engine, it will start and die immediately as the ecu cannot sync the injection and spark.
It also throws a check light with a TDC correlation code if either cam or crank sensors signals are even a few degrees apart (old belt fluttering or weak tensioner spring).
check the PCV system and also make sure the throttle was not messed with, also adjust the tappets perfectly correct (read the engine position from the camshaft pulley - it has tdc1 mark already, just mark the wheel with 90 degree intervals from tdc1 and do cylinders in the firing order of 1342. Do not rely on eyeballing the camlobes as it can throw you off
