Honda Civic 9th Generation Cold Start Knocking Sound

Currently facing problem with my Honda Civic 9th Generation. A Knocking Sound comes from engine on cold start up like tick tick tick

1. Cold Start up. Idle Engine (Knocking Sound comes for 10 minutes)
2. Cold Start up. Drive Mode (Knocking Sound comes for 10 minutes)
3. Cold Start up. Neutrol Mode Acceleration ( Engine Sound comes without that tick tick sound).

Strangely the Sound goes away after 10 minute drive. the drive is smooth after 10 minutes and i dont feel any issue.

Thought it was the Tensioner but the i have replaced the tentioner with genuine, the sound is there.
Engine Tuning Done
Timing Belt Replaced
AC Compressor Checked
Honda Genuine Oil is being used.
Gear Oil changed
Scanner doesn't show anything.

Please guide.

Someone guided me to change Petrol Station because i use only one. Bad fuel also causes the same.

Is it resolved now? Cause i am facing the same in my civic 8th gen what i do is let the engine idle for 5 6 minutes until it gets warmed up completely after that its completely fine

Issue not Resolved, even after changing fuel Station

This tapping or clicking is mostly upper valvetrain noise. If that is the case then there is not enough lubricant reaching the top initially. Your oil level may be full or low.

1. Oil level is fine and still clicking noise?
   a. oil pressure can be low. Mostly in a newish car it can be because of high viscosity oil in a cold weather.
   Use fully synthetic oil with good cold rating and it should solve the issue.
   hence the sound goes away after 10 mins as the engine is warmed up and the oil is hot enough to flow every where. in that case you MUST change to better oil.

2. If still not solved then you need to get your engine checked.

P.S by replacing timing belt you meant the serpentine belt aka accessory belt? 9th gen civic does not have a timing belt but a chain.

Total quartz 5w-30 previously was using honda 5w-30 (which is also total blend) that noice got reduced when i started using Total 5w-30 but its not that much a problem for me as i let the car idle for 5 to 10 minutes to warm it up completely

I think in Pakistan weather 0-30 should be used. I believe honda itself markets its fully synthetic 0-30 as well. next oil change id say try the 0-30 and see if it makes a difference, the knocking/clicking sound just means that for that time the upper valve train is running a bit dry

I think i am taking the Honda Oil from the Market and maybe it not genuine, i will try refilling the oil by Honda South to compare the results.

Secondly, I am guessing that Honda Civic takes 3.7 liters of Engine Oil but with Oil Filter Change it take 3.9, currently i pour 3.7 liters which can be a problem because oil filter itself takes around 0.2-0.3 liters.

use 0-30 fully synthetic oil. honda also has that in their lineup. i am prety sure it will solve your issue

also if u go to honda dealership for oil change also ask them to test your oil pressure and see if it is in the recommended range

I am facing the same sound. My car is around 138k kms done. I have changed tensioner, belt, engine mounts etc. but a sound before warming up is still there. Not sure whats the matter. Btw I am using AISIN 20w-50 because it is 138k kms done. Also Can I switch back to 5w-30 ? Is it safe ? Please Answer

20W50 is way thick for your engine, further mileage doesnt determine the grade of oil its the OEM recommendations to be followed i.e. manufacturer of the Engine knows its engine better. See what are the recommendations in owner's manual, one can deviate 5 points up or down from OEM recommendation but not 20W50..
