Honda Civic EK 1997 Flooded Recovery

my civic got flooded recently, opposite to karachi club in office parking

both the ECU and Steel mate 838g security completely submerged in water for several hours.

water level was just covering the front tyres

Electrical system was completely dead, I did not attempt any repair and towed the car home.

now after cleaning, interior is completely stripped.

1) battery was completely dead, it was a new daewoo battery purchased 3 months ago, and working fine till now.
2) the security system shorted out, sent a constant close signal to the driver side door actuator. the actuator melted. probably the cause of dead battery.
3) removed the security system and the actuator.
4) recharged battery, removed plugs, and cranked the engine. engine cranks fine.
5) tested fuel pump, working just like before
6) head lights, brake lights, indicators are working
7) did not find any moisture under distributor cap
8) ecu was cleaned with wd40 and brake cleaner mix. but some components are corroded, 1 tiny component (i think capacitor leg has broken)
9) engine is cranking Ok, there do not appear to be any blown fuses. fuel is coming to the fuel rail, checked by taking of the pressurised fuel hose, and turning the key.
10) checked one of the cylinders, with screw driver in the spark plug cable, spark is present.
11) Not sure if the injectors are getting signals. how to confirm.

@Xulfiqar please advise further what items to check. and how to confirm the ecu is dead.

karachi members, if anyone would be willing to lend me an ecu for 5 minutes to i can confirm if its the ecu thats gone.

the car is 1997 pakistan civic, manual, completely stock and original engine with original ecu. EXI 1500cc.
the ECU number is 37820-P2C-W01

@nfssaad sir very sorry for the loss! i have seen the same thing happening to my colleagues' City and Cultus, on the cars was completely flooded. please clean the ECU with contact cleaner to remove any debris! i am not sure i know any one who can repair this but check with Arshad Nawab 0302-2076994 he may help you source a new ECU if needed. i have previously sourced Honda Engines and electrical components from him.

Please park the car under sun with all windows open! to let any moisture in the cabin out.

since 1997, it was the first time the carpet was pulled out. the rockwool was still stuck to the floor, had to tear out some portions.

deep cleaned every single plastic trim. right now only the dashboard is in place. everything else is completely out of the car.

utter ruination of a genuine sweet ride! best of luck sir. please install a battery cutoff, i turned it off during rains for my parked cars!

even my recently bought xiaomi redmi 8 phone was in the car. just my luck, i forgot it in the car. that phone was submerged in water for nearly 4 hours.

completely dismantled it, hair dryed it, and it started working again! only now some water has gotten in between the back light and the lcd. no idea how to get it out, as its completely sealed.

strangely, i did not find any blown fuse. but did find a semi melted, still working fuse of the 838g security system.

the fuse box of the car was also partially in water, i can see traces of corrosion on the fuses.

i just drove normally to my office, parked in car parking. was in my office when the clouds really let loose.

Xiaomi are actually quite good i have been using one for 3 years now Allah ka Shukar! use it as you can dont have it opened!.

it is somewhat a wonder how these fuses not shorted out! the water in that area was quite bad! my brother has his office at PIDC, he is saying cars were literally floating on water. i have seen many of the cars being hydrolocked and people constantly trying to start them bending and distorting the engine as water is not compressible

my office is also in pidc. pakistan petroleum.

yes, it was the danger of hydrolocking, thats why did not crank the engine till i got home. opened up the plugs and then cranked the engine.

hopefully the car will have no major issues inshallah! be very careful and observant when you start using it again! and since you have the thing opened up look for wires that are either broken or have damaged insulation and repair them then and there!

To test injectors, power side is constant and supplied from main relay, the switched side from ecu is tested with led and resistor, it will blink when plugged to injector while cranking

This honda has a start signal switch which forces the ecu to fire all injectors in unison to start the engine, if that wire is broken due to security system etc it wont start

Usually secrity system also cuts fuel pump power

Sir i m no expert but i dont think Steelmate 838 is am immobilizer. although the wires should be checked as far is any water damage and short circuit is concerned,

ecu can be fixed by relevant expert.

There is a shop in magazine Lane plaza market for ecus. That man has ecus for almost all pakisani cars. I once inquired a civic 8th gen ecu from him and it was available. If you bring him your ecu, he also does repair work. The guy's name is Tahir. When you go to magazine Lane and ask for him by name, almost every shop knows where he is and can guide you. I had his business card but couldn't find it right now. Will post his contact details as soon I find his card.

Don't understand that because my 2 door lock actuator relays were burned because of rain and they did not blow the fuse but make the door lock actuator motor stuck. But last time I got the relay in upper side of driver's dashboard so Alhamdullilah after this rain my door locks are working perfectly. The relays got melted but didn't blew fuse.

was using the 838 as a lock/unlock.

the fuel pump was wired through another timer chor switch, which escaped the flooding.

the 838 does not work any more. have cleaned it though.
