I’m facing a strange issue with my Honda Civic Reborn (2009 model).
When I keep the car running for about an hour during the day nd say 1 hour and 30 minutes during the night, it starts behaving weirdly. First, the RPM starts to fluctuate when I press the pedal a bit harder. As the car gets hotter, even a small press on the pedal causes RPM fluctuation, and eventually the car shuts off completely. When this happens, the oil check light also turns on. But the temperature gauge always stays below the halfway mark.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that during a cold start, when I shift the gear from D to P, there’s a 2–3 second delay and then it shifts with a jerk. If I let the car heat up a bit before driving, this jerk either goes away or becomes much less noticeable.
I’m currently using 5W-40 fully synthetic oil. Not sure if that could be related.
I've had the value body checked; there are no issues with it. I also got the transmission oil filter and gear oil changed.
The next step my mechanic suggested is to completely drain the transmission oil and refill it with Honda ATF DW-1 or replace the transmission box, since I bought the car about a month ago and the existing gear oil had a burnt, plastic-like smell.
The jerk issue when shifting from P to D on a cold start has been there since the day I purchased the car.
